Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?! Literally picked up this truck 4 days ago! Wife and son were stopped for traffic, trying to merge onto the highway. A young female struck them from behind. Wife looked into her rear view mirror and saw the driver fixing her hair, looking into her rear view mirror, as she was accelerating into them. Thank god, no one was hurt! Bumper is scuffed and a very small dent on the tailgate. You can not have anything nice in this world. Carelessness and immaturity are EVERYWHERE!

On a side note, I love this view every time I look out my side mirror. The angles are incredible.

Glad they weren't hurt.
Sadly, we see this sort of BS every time we drive. People back and forth over the lines, looking down at a phone, women doing their hair or makeup in the mirror, guys reading a paper. A friend had the same experience at a gas station years ago - woman doing her makeup on her way to work.
From the looks of these things that get rear ended, they are thankfully pretty tough.

Glad everyone was ok. Time to get that aftermarket bumper you want.

I hate this shit. I was rear ended in my Power Wagon by a kid driving a ford explorer. The PW wasn't even a year old. I was at a stop light. The kid never even tried to slow down. I seen him coming in my rear view mirrors. He was texting at the time. Did $3,300 to the PW. Totaled the explorer. It got bent in the middle. We couldn't open up the doors to get the kid out. He crawled out of the rear hatch. The bad part. His grandmother is my next door neighbor. She hasn't talked to me since.

Yep, we were rear ended in Toledo and as the rear bumper needed to be replaced, we went with the Mopar metal bumper. Also have the 3 piece up front after another accident claimed the stock plastic bumper.

That sucks!

I am actually in the middle of shopping for dash cams with a rear facing cam option because of this issue.

Even with "hands-free" device laws on the books that most people ignore anyways, just see too many people with their heads up their digital asses looking at a phone or doing other distracted driving.

It does suck, and it could happen at any moment. Had it been your previous vehicle it could have certainly happened. Thankfully the gladiator is built like a tank. Imagine the damage bill that driver will get. Ouch.

Depending on the year and mileage on that Toyota, it could be totaled.

this is so maddening. what is even worse is even if her insurance covers it your insurance rates will probably go up. man. anymore these days if something like this happens to me, I'm going sue happy and making them pay for the increased insurance cost. yeah yeah sue happy is crap, but we seem to live in a country where nobody cares about one another anymore.

good thing is nobody got hurt. hopefully there's no major damage or they will just total it and give you a brand new one. I wouldn't want a rig that was already wrecked within 4 days. it'll never drive quite right.

Glad all are okay. Do you have standard OEM bumper or steel? Was anything in the receiver? Step, ball, anything that helped protect you better?

This is what gets me - hands-free solves nothing. It's not the device in your hand - it's the attention you are paying to a conversation or taking that next step or action. Study after study have proven that even "hands-free" is about the same risk and yet the law makers make these laws to silence people, to shut them up, even though it hasn't resolved a thing. There are few things so important that you MUST take that call or MUST answer that text while driving, while moving.
It's not the device - it's your attention to the other person and making decisions on what to do or say next related to that conversation.
We push buttons and turn dials all the time. We shift, we steer, we increase or decrease volume, we turn the HVAC on or off, up or down and it's usually not much of an issue. We've done those things for decades, a century even.
It's the damned conversation, your attention to understanding the other person and responding to them.

Why would they? I've never had that happen. I had a truck that was either hit or involved in accidents 4 times while I owned it and the rate never changed. Oddly, people seemed to be attracted to that big red and silver truck - it was like a target - hit me, hit me! I was backed into, side-swiped, and more.
Only a really shady company would increase rates because you were rear-ended. Especially over one accident that was 0% your fault. She wasn't moving.
