OK: if and when we push the button on a JT, we would ship it into the Southern Caribbean with no local dealers and clearly no warrantee. There are a fair number of Wranglers and local shops that service them on island.

So, from current JT owners and experienced Jeep owners, who’d take the risk . . .

Don't do it! After 1 week of purchase 1500mi, mine just spent 22 days in service. Front axle assembly had to be replaced.

Do it! After 3 months, 5000 miles of beating the tar out of it, daily driving and then polishing up for meet ups,,,,

I would do it but if you could be sure to thoroughly test drive it first...or I could drive it for a month for you!

PS. Which island?

If you’re going to do it, look at the local shops first. Maybe one is certified by Mopar for providing service. Are they certified to perform recall work? Ask them how they get their parts. Do they use FCA’s parts network or do they have to use a 3rd party?

Beyond that, personally I wouldn’t do it unless I was damn sure about the service I could get. I love Jeeps but they do tend to have more issues.

Edit: maybe @JeepCares could tell you if there is a certified service center anywhere around you.

Have to be a 2021 sport for me. Would want as little electronics as I could get and some time to work as many early production bugs out as possible.

Having dealt with Jeep "service" or lack thereof on our JL's I would do it because even if you have to take it in for warranty work it's not worth the "fight".

We took my wife's JL to 4 different dealers for a simple radio update(would reboot constantly) and a creaking clutch pedal assembly coming from inside the Jeep. To make a long story short dealers had our Jeep for over a month and only after getting Jeep cares involved did they update the radio. They wouldn't touch the interior clutch pedal assembly due to lift/tires. One dealer actually told us we should regear to fix the clutch creaking :headbang:

I love Jeeps and can't see myself without one, but knowing what I do now I would have invested in an aftermarket radio and just kept lubricating the clutch pedal assembly rather than stressing me out and being without a Jeep/vehicle for that long(only one dealer gave us a loaner).

Unless you can find a local shop that supports jeeps and has a great reputation, I would not. Unless you have the money to fly someone in to work on it, work on it yourself, on top of shipping the parts, I would not. And that is for any vehicle not just a Jeep. And right now, you can’t even get parts unless you are a dealer for things that go wrong, like the current factor recalls parts that can’t even get fixed.

I would spend my money on something older/restored that uses simpler technology = easier to repair.

You live on an island for a reason...and few other vehicles allow you to enjoy that island as well as a Jeep. So, the real question is, what’s your backup vehicle? Just make sure the backup is reliable, simple, and also a Jeep (or Jeep like...vintage Bronco, Scout, Defender, FJ, etc).

Is Turo active on the island? Build a fleet and pay for repairs by renting them out...

SMLOBX: the plan would be to special order exactly what I want into South Florida, fly up and take delivery, then spend 2-3 weeks visiting friends and “vacationing” in the states. If anything is not right, take it into whatever dealer I need to get it fixed before shipping it out of Miami.

What Island: Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire): The shore diving capital of the world. The truck will be our primary dive truck 4-6 days a week.

Our backup will be our current ride, a 2006 Mitsubishi L200.

Thanks!
I have been to Bonaire during the 80’s when I was a research diver. Beautiful place....
If you have a decent mechanic then they can order just about anything although as you know it may take a week or so to get it but since you have a back up vehicle you should be fine!

I’d wait a while longer for all the bugs to be fixed if your taking it out of country if I were you.
