Let my buddy drive us home after a long day - he said all Jeeps and their waiving are silly - opted for a 1 finger salute to anyone who dared wave at him.

I think I'm the one that ruined it guys, sorry.

I had a very modded out Cherokee give me an enthusiastic wave as we passed. Totally caught me off guard and was more awkward because we were making eye contact, lol.

The guilt still keeps me up at night.

It depends where I am at. In the city, not so much. On the road or off it, all the time.

Is it because "gladiator" or is it not a thing anymore?
I've waved at a ton of people and they just /ignore.
Even the lifted guys.
What gives?
Almost everyone waves in Va. At least rural/suburban Va. At least Spotsy/Fredericksburg area. :)

I wave if someone else waves, but I like to drive with my left hand at 7 o'clock and my right hand on the arm rest so my hands are not in a position to wave.
Same. 7 or 9. I have to make a conscious effort to wave, and half the time, it's probably behind the A pillar.

Somewhat paid attention to how many jeeps I passed today in town. Drove about 35 miles, and passed 19-20 (kinda lost count around 16ish) jeeps/JT's, 7 waved.

Years ago, Jeeps were very basic / minimalist vehicles that a lot of people built up and maintained on their own....it took work. If you passed another Jeep (especially a lifted one), there was a very good chance that the driver was the person actually working on and maintaining that Jeep. They knew every part of their Jeep and how everything worked. The wave (at least for me) was based on mutual respect for the time and effort that went into modifying and maintaining the Jeep.

Let’s face it, nowadays most modern Jeeps are driven by people who know absolutely nothing about their Jeep. They are soccer moms and guys that couldn’t even change a flat tire, never mind fix, modify or even do basic maintenance on their Jeeps. It’s just not the same.

I keep my eye out for the wave and will wave back respectfully. Sometimes I will initiate it, mostly with modified Jeeps, but sometimes stock, but its just not the same anymore and has lost a lot of its appeal for me.

I have no issue with not getting a wave back. I just assume they are one of the useless idiots mentioned above and move on.

Nowadays you just have to initiate the wave, either full hand or two fingers enough. I do esp to modded Jeeps. Females are usually unaware or just being cautious, I know lots of crazies out there, I don't blame them. I do get waves still initiated from others about 50% of the time.

Jeep should have those semaphores to flip up hahaha, that'll make it obvious! But let's not be too creative about it huh?! ;)

For me it is hit or miss, but lately there's a whole lot of misses. The last two days I have had to drive into the valley (I live in AZ) for various business. I encountered at least 30 jeeps which I waved to every one, while only receiving 3 waves back. One from a "soccer mom" and two from guys who seemed to be in their 30s. Then this happened..... I was walking to my jeep and passed a beautiful black limited edition wrangler (with 2 ducks on the dash) I said beautiful jeep, I'm in the gladiator (one slot over 21 JTRD) and the remark was "oh" nothing more. I will continue to wave and compliment people on their jeeps because there is always hope and maybe it will brighten some ones day.

I will also say that when off-road, everyone gets a wave and virtuality everyone waves back regardless of who's driving what.

Except for Mojaves.
Why? Because I don't see any of them off-road...

Same. I have a soft spot for xj's and know the work that goes into building/maintaining them. More respect for xj owners than alot of newer wrangler/gladiator drivers
First Jeep was an "88 XJ. It was my first wife's DD and my weekend project to keep it running.
