There not too many used ones around me but there are 559 new 23 models within 250 miles of me. There are 5 or 6 local dealerships and each of them have anywhere from 10-20 new model 23s on the lot.

I tried to ignore them - emails, texts, phone calls - a dealer I've done business with in past years (I think we bought a Grand Cherokee or two from them over the years)
Finally I decided I'll respond to an email, let them know my current situation, no way I'd even talk about trading for a 2023, that would be silly to go from 2022 to 2023 with the only differences being the model year, mileage, etc. - and no one would have a blue one anyway. So forget 2023, and with prices of the 2024 in the stratosphere (compared to what I've spent in the past for mine) - it would have to be a killer deal, really killer, below invoice (they are an MSRP dealer) and have to beat any other numbers I've seen on my current JT.
She shot back saying they badly need used Gladiators and their people are searching for anyone willing to trade or sell them one. I can believe it - there just aren't any used ones around here.
3 days worth of messages left for me........
I'm hoping my "you can't meet my numbers" will maybe slow them down.
Is it really that bad out there?
There seems to be no issue getting new 2024s, the 2023s are pretty much gone around here, slim pickings on 23s here and I can't say I've seen used ones on the lots.
Used might be hard to find, but there are plenty of 2023 leftovers where I live.

Think of the area "within 250 miles" covers - that's from you and out 250 in any direction. A circle diameter of 500 miles. That's over 196,000 square miles of area.

Like we've seen - the numbers will vary wildly from place to place.
There just aren't used ones here, and it doesn't really matter about 2023s if they of of zero interest.
They just aren't sitting around in our state in any case.
If you take pretty much our entire state - there are 370 or so. Most of those will be low-optioned JTs. Why in the world would anyone trade for a 1 year newer and LOSE the options they currently have? In 196,000 square miles, there wasn't a single one that matches the options I have - every one is missing something big.
The closest match is over 200 miles away and is missing ACC/FCW which means also missing auto high beam. All are features I use.
Still, that's a small number of 2023s left in a circle that's approaching 200,000 square miles.

I've driven through 3 different dealer lots (curious, and they weren't far out of my way to other destinations). I could count all of the 23s on those 3 lots on my fingers.
When you get down to a certain point - a buyer has to be extremely NOT picky and willing to take anything they have on the lot even if they don't like the color or the interior or the features. The last ones are always the hardest to sell because you have run out of choices - take one of these 3 or forget it.

Used just don't seem to exist here - I suspect most JT buyers in our state are first-time buyers without another JT to trade.

I agree that the new 2023 JTs that are left are low option ones and colors people don't want. Same in the JLU world, I drove 5 hours to buy the JLU High-Tide my wife wanted because it has the options and is the color she wanted.
But how will the 2023s that are still sitting on the lots affect prices. Will there be a huge price swing on new and used JTs from region to region.

Excellent questions.
I'm sure remaining 23s will impact used pries - how could they not? If you can spend just a little bit more and get factory fresh, new, full new warranty, no miles and so on, many would if it meets their budget. I can't imagine 23s not impacting used prices.
The thing with the 24s is there's a lot of differences. So someone looking for those differences will totally ignore any 2023 (just like I would - why would I even bother looking at a 23 when I have a fine 22 - and no remaining 2023 in our state matches the options/packages/features I have. A High Altitude would be the closest since there's no 23 Overland, but even those are lacking what I have now.
IF I were to trade at any time - sooner rather than later, or later rather than sooner, a 23 makes no sense but the depressed values on trades and elevated prices on 24s makes it really tough.

This is true, there are a couple with ACC/FCW but not many. I have been looking for a diesel with ACC/FCW and I have only found 2 but they are fully optioned including the dual tops, dual doors with a MSRP over $80K. Depending on the dealerships the discount range anywhere from 0%-8%. One dealership even has market adjustments and increased the price on the Gladiators. The few used ones that I have seen are in the high $40K and aren't optioned any better than any of the new ones on the lot so it makes no sense to purchase a used one when you can buy a new one for the same price.

If you can't ignore a dealer's emails/texts, it must mean you want to sell it, so just do it.
I believe you could always just tell the dealer to suck eggs and quit bugging you if don't have the strength to ignore, I guess. A dealer's just dealer, he ain't your friend (any kind of dealer).

Dealers in my area took them to auction when they had the chance. Nobody wants a $700 payment on a clapped-out Gladiator with 40,000 miles and little to no warranty, at least I hope not. If a dealer is begging you then he probably has a John lined up. Nobody's sitting on anything special.

The 24's offer no compelling reason to trade in, so no used in the supply. In the current economy, If someone needs a good daily driver, they should be looking for a more cost effective option.

A little off topic, but seems like it was touched on a bit in this thread. People who have test driven the 24 say the interior is quieter. They also mention there is some additional molding or gasket around the front window frame.
If anyone figures out what that is and the part number, please start a thread on it. That way we can make our own 2020.4, 2021.4, 2022.4 or 2023.4 gladiators ?

oh, I've ignored 5 phone calls, several emails and a half dozen or more texts. I finally said you can't touch my numbers (and I'm not a big fan of the sales manager there who makes like he's your best Irish buddy)
They wanted me to stop in today for a "big sales event" where they have buyers lined up to bid on your vehicles...... bad timing......... my son is coming in from FL next week, the house is a mess, need to get two rooms setup up for him and my grandson, need to get groceries and such.
So their last "pleas" have been ignored.

My 2020 was sold fast as a certified pre-owned. (whatever that actually means, if it has any real meaning). Mine went to a local Des Moines person - I know because it was a bit before Sirius guardian stopped the features on it LOL)

Our trades end up being fast flips for the local dealers. I've watched our trades leave as we were coming in for other stuff just 2 days later (we'd ordered mats which hadn't arrived and something else, and there went our prior Grand Cherokee with a new owner just 2 days later!)
They love our trade-ins - always clean, low miles, easy flips for them. But getting them to make decent offers is like pulling teeth as they are, after all, dealers in it to make money.

A little off topic, but seems like it was touched on a bit in this thread. People who have test driven the 24 say the interior is quieter. They also mention there is some additional molding or gasket around the front window frame.

the 2024 I drove was indeed quieter inside - granted, it wasn't a windy day and the streets weren't too bad, but I did notice a difference. I even checked my left hearing aid - yup, it's working..... (I actually did, not kidding)

I sort of wonder if that area by the cowl and even in the windshield frame itself might be insulated??????

My wife just asked me a killer question - ugh, "does the new one get better gas mileage" and I have to be honest - my gut says no, likely a whole heck of a lot WORSE than the Overland we have.
No way in heck that big beast with big heavy tires, lower gears, massive weight (a lot heavier than an Overland, I bet by hundreds of pounds) just no way it could even touch a Sport or Overland on MPG.

OK, cue in the song "can't touch this"...................

My coworker bought his 21 Rubicon with 33K for $38K in January. He found it in Pennsylvania. I can't imagine it's that hard to find them. But maybe so... with 20% off MSRP, I hadnt really bothered looking at used for quite awhile.

For you, and some others, might be that simple.

For my JT - do I "want" to sell" ? No - but if things lined up just right, conditions were met and one was there that could match or beat what I have, never say never.
Sell - no, won't sell. That's just crazy with the tax implications and leaving me without a vehicle.
