Doing a Death Valley trip soon and want to have tire repair kit for everything. Getting some GlueTread for sidewall. Plugs for the tread. Any other ideas for the Emergency tire repair . Have you had any experience with them?

Plugs worked fine twice so far. Air compressor, backup compressor (even a foot pump could work), load range E LT tires, spare. Satellite communications. Spare water, food, blankets, etc.

Check out Glue Tread. They have a few different kits that can even patch sidewalls.

I’ve looked for inner tubes to shove in a 37” tire just as an emergency get-back-to-pavement option, and I haven’t found a vendor that has the right size. I carry GlueTread, plugs, single spare. I do wish for a backup compressor when I’m solo.

You’re right to be concerned in DVNP; the rocks are very geologically young and sharp, and I’ve had several flats there including on sturdy E-rated tires. Always on the sidewall, when I partly rolled over a rock near the edge of the trail, which flipped up and wedged a pointy bit between the ground and bulging sidewall. So tire pressure matters - lower pressure than required is bad, as it exposes more bulge. It’s rare you’ll need to air way down for traction - so maybe try to air down just enough to survive the washboard, not less.

Double check your Jack by using it to lift your vehicle and remove a tire. I found I was missing a few things by going through this exercise. In my case, one over torqued lug nut, bottle jack buddy makes it less sketchy, and a small plate to put the bottle jack on in the dirt/sand. Good test for your tools etc if you haven’t tested a tire change yet
