My Gladiator sat for a few months so I only have about 2500k since I purchased it back in August 2020.
I’m getting ready to go on a 1200 mile road trip, should I change the oil or wait until service is due?

Manual says a maximum of 10k miles or 12 months (whichever comes first) between changes. If it was me, I would change the oil and give it a good once over before the trip.

Run it and change after you get back.

Is this your first oil change?
I like to change oil the first time at about 1,000 miles, so, if I were you, I'd be changing it before the trip.
But I'm old-fashioned that way.

Gotta agree with Kevin_D 😀. New engines seem to knock fine metal shavings off during the break-in period. Best to get them out of the pan before a long trip

Check the color or the oil. If it’s brownish, change it before the trip. If it’s more yellowish and translucent, then change it after.

That’s just what I would do. I’d put good money on that you’ll be fine either way though.

I completely agree that you should change it now. It is your first oil change and as my dad always said, the manuals are written by the company that wants you to buy another when this one wears out. So if they say 7500 miles, I change at half that. Oil is cheaper than engines.

I changed mine at 500mi and then sent it to blackstone for analysis. There wasn't much in the oil as far as the analysis went, but the filter had a decent amount of what appeared to be paint along with some small metal flakes.

So at least the filter did what it is meant to do.

Do what makes you sleep well at night. Not sure there is a correct answer to your question. Oil is cheap.

If that is the break in oil with 2,500 miles on it I would change it before heading out on a road trip.

I have 4000 on mine and heading out for a 1000 mile road trip Monday, so I went and got an oil change today. Get 4 free oil changes the first two years, so might as well.

Oil changes are cheap and easy on these trucks. I'd personally do it before. Check all fluids and tire pressure before departing.
