I have a 2023 Glad with the 3.6 engine. I had the oil changed two weeks ago. I checked the oil after the dealer changed it and the filter. I didn't check for level because the truck was on uneven ground, but oil seemed clean but not as clear as new from the jug like the las t change. I just checked the oil level with the engine cold, last driven till 3 p.m. Saturday and sat over night. Now the oil shows about 1/2 " high on the stick , it's up on the wire part, I waited 20 min and checked again, same reading. I'll check it again tomorrow at the school parking lot incase my lot isn't level. Question ? I know the oil filter doesn't have a check valve in it , would I be getting a high reading from it draining back to the pan ? Tomorrow I''ll drive to work and check it after work work before leaving.

You can start by checking the paperwork on your oil change to see if they added the required 5 quarts, or if they added 6. The 3.6 in the JKs took 6 quarts, so sometimes the dealers put too much oil in.

After that, check with the oil with the engine fully warmed up, parked on a level surface, after the engine has been shut off for about 5 minutes. This is the recommended procedure per the Owner's Manual.

In my experience, reading the dipstick can be very difficult, especially with fresh oil. Pull the dipstick immediately after shutting the engine off, then wait the 5 minutes. This allows any residual oil in the tube to drain down and not impact the reading on the dipstick. Cleaning the end of the dipstick with brake parts cleaner before inserting can also help make the level more clear.

My experience is that even with the proper amount of oil (5 Quarts), the level will tend to read just at the wire part of the dipstick.

Thank's I checked the work order, , it shows 5 guarts of 0-20. I'll check it tomorrow the way you said to. All my other Jeeps said to check when oil was warm or hot. This oil change was my last free one. I had the first one done at 2k then this one at 6k. Now I'll just go every 5 k. Thanks again.

I know, But the oil is put in with a pump, When I worked at dealerships, sometimes they wouldn't pay attension to what they pumped in. But I beleave the new pumps are set for how many quarts go in, I retired in 2011, so I hope they changed to the new pumps. Lol

As long as it's near the top of the cross hatch area on the dip stick it is fine. These are not precision measuring devices.

I usually check it cold. I pull the stick, wipe it off, and then check the level. The main thing that should cause concern is if the level drops between changes.

That's my concern that they didn't put to much oil in.

Based on all the other posts I've read over the last five years, this engine will operate with no issues with an extra quart in it.

I checked mine one morning while traveling and in a rush. It was after a long drive from Las Vegas to Albuquerque. It was parked at an angle and showed halfway down on the stick. I just dumped in a quart and went on my way. Didn't think about it until later, but it didn't cause any issues. I drove it for another year before trading it on another one.

My '21 Mojave takes 5.5 quarts to read full after an oil and filter change

OK, Everything is good. I drove home from work, parked the Jeep and waited 5 min or so. I checked oil and it was right at the top of the cross hatch, right where the wire meets. right where it should be. I figure the filter holds a good amount of oil in it till ti drains. I checked it again 5 min later and it was on the same spot of the dipstick. Thanks all.

This is one of the reasons I change my own oil and filter. Dipsticks are not 100% accurate. They're just a way to maintain oil levels between changes. I put in the five qts. the manual calls for and mine is always overfilled a little if you judge it by the dipstick. I've never gotten any of the symptoms of overfilled oil capacity. You're best bet is to fill with the recommended amount of oil the owner's manual calls for vs. reading the dipstick. This information is from several experienced SAE mechanics I know. My $0.02.
