Headed into town earlier this week, only a couple miles on the interstate and cruise set at 72mph, when I suddenly caught a glimpse in the outside mirror of a silver car closing fast and veering towards me. Absolutely no time to react or even say anything and the truck got nailed in the left rear corner. The car spun around and its rear end hit the left side of the cab and bed shortly thereafter, then we both headed into the grass off the right side of the road and came to rest.

Thankfully injuries were only minor, but holy hell, can't anybody drive worth a damn anymore? Is it asking too much for folks to pay attention to where they're going as they hurtle down the road? Maybe even slow the hell down and not act like they're trying out for a role in some idiotic road race flick.

The truck held up pretty well considering the lady hit me hard enough to set off all her airbags and shove her right front passenger wheel back almost into her door. Best part is (surprise surprise) she had no insurance.

So now I take some Aleve and wait for word from the body shop whether the truck's going to get fixed or totaled. At last word there is some frame damage and cost estimate is already near 50% value.

I'm happy you are doing ok, sorry about the Gladiator. Having been hit my 2 drunks and had one drunk take out a power line that damaged my RV, non-had insurance. I'm of the belief now that it's time to layer up and suit the daylights out of uninsured motorists.

Make sure you get checked out. The adrenaline from the accident can mask issues.
I did end up going to the emergency room to get checked out. Nothing bad showed up in x-rays or CT scan, thankfully came out with just some soft tissue strain.

Same exact thing happened to my son last month in the TJ I gave him in highschool. He was doing 45 in a 45, The guy hit him so hard that the roofof the TJ hit a tree branch 16 feet up. My son landed on all 4 tires but the Audi that hit him was right there and wedged itself into the front wheel, breaking the front axle. Injuries showed up the next day. Nothing critical, just sore everywhere. Audi driver had insurance but had amnesia when the police got there.

They don't have insurance because they can't afford it. Suing them just gets you another headache and legal fees.

Glad you are ok. But you're going to feel either tomorrow or the day after. Hate people with no insurance. Should be thrown in jail if causing an accident.

You're not wrong... but

I took the 1st turd that hit me without insurance to small claims, he no showed so I won. I garnished his wages (attorney cousin helped me out) and his employer tried playing games, saying he quit. His car was back at work the next Monday. So every week I sent letters, after 3 weeks and threats turn them over to the State, they caved. Started getting checks every paycheck for over 2 years. Then the turd thought he was done, but interest, postage, etc had him for another couple paychecks. I loved making his life miserable.

The turd that hit the power line tried to hide behind mommy & daddy. My insurance took care of me, but I wanted them paid back on principal. Took him to small claims too, but he had no job. So went after mommy and daddy and they tried ignoring me too. Until they were served with small claims paperwork (the car was in their name) they coughed up the money then.

I don't do it for the money as much as making their lives miserable. I blame States for allowing turds like this to cancel insurance so easily and not taking action against them.

Double triple up vote this.

many years ago, my wife and I were involved in a head-on collision on a blind corner on a forest service Road. She was messed up pretty good. Some good Samaritan came by and drove us to the hospital, but we were so remote. It took a couple hours to get there. Then like another hour or two for the doctors to tend to her and get her stabilized.

I was fine. Or so I thought. After the doctor was done with the wife, he looked at me and asked if I needed to be checked out. I told him I don’t think so. I came through pretty unscathed.

he said maybe we should check you out anyway so I stood up and took one step and fell to the floor.

turns out I had broken my foot and cracked three ribs and didn’t even know it until just then

Might wanna get checked out.
Good luck

Glad you’re ok! What a horrible surprise to be thrown into. Can’t police check her phone/text history to determine if she was texting?
In Canada, we have 3rd party liability, uninsured party fault coverage. Not sure what I pay for that but we too have people driving around without insurance. Whatever I pay for that coverage, I can’t be bothered trying to go after someone to recover loses.

All the best in what comes from this. Hoping the truck is written off and you can start over.
