So after looking at cars for a year.. selling my truck 6 months ago and doubling down on the options it's time to do the order. I am very torn bc I don't have a bottomless pit of money for options.

So where my mind is jumping around...

Aux Switch - Seems cheap and just handy to have. I might add lights or something. Kinda almost a no-brainer.

Premium LED - I think most folks have said this is a no-brainer.

Active Safety - I have grown to love the parking sensor on my wife's SUV. I guess this isn't critical and it has a backup.

Adaptive Cruise - I am not a big user of cruise control and I assume the adaptive is at higher speeds so sitting in Atlanta traffic wouldn't make use of it. Do the other items in this package help at slower speeds or really make sense to get?

Trail Rail - Those rails should be handy and the locking back seat would be nice. I could also see the outlet being nice. I honestly think the outlet would be the nicest thing for tailgating. How hard is adding the outlet later?

Trailer Tow - I had a trailer hitch on my truck and I don't think I used it once. We have a hitch on the SUV which is really only used for a bike rack. Is the extra cooler and alternator handy for anything? I also see that Trail Rail and Trailer Tow both have the 240 Amp Alternator... do we really get double charged or is it cheaper to buy them together?

I also hate that you have to get a cover if you do the dual top option. I was torn on top and was going to do the dual top to give me both options. Now I am leaning on doing just the hardtop bc I see so some used options listed.. and I have to assume a 3rd party will have some decent options before too long. Hardtop with the soft front seems like a great compromise.

Any insight into the package would be very helpful. I feel like jumping around sites and seeing each talked alone makes me think folks buy ALL of them.. and maybe that is why the on-lot options are so expensive.

Sounds like a solid setup, some feedback on items you've slotted that I too opted for:

Trail Rail: Outlet has been all but useless in our case. The minimal total watts plus lack of pure sine wave output means that I cannot use it to charge up my EcoFlow Delta power bank. It's fine to charge a simple phone but you wont be running even a small coffee maker let alone an actual power tool. Many find use for them by using the outlet to charge their rechargeable tool batteries. It's useless enough to where I feel like it's borderline gimmicky but I'm a little biased given I nearly pulled the trigger on a PowerBoost F150 whose 9.6kW bed power bank option could run my home. A much more powerful inverter which outputs pure sine wave power can be had for much cheaper.

The actual rails themselves are handy at times but not worth the up-charge IMO given you can get them used for near free plus many rack options require their removal along the sides.

Aux Switches: For sure. PITA to do after the fact and nearly everyone looking to buy your jeep down the road will be checking to see if it has the switches.

Tops: Many prefer aftermarket soft-top options over OEM. Opting for just the hard-top allows you the flexibility to pick from hundreds of options later. If you're not absolutely certain you want the mopar soft top, go with just the hard-top for now.

Active Safety: I got spoiled with these nannies in previous cars. Got it and enjoy it. Like the Aux Switches, could be the determining factor for potential buyers when you go to sell the truck.

Premium LED: I've never had great (long term) luck with aftermarket LED headlamp housings so this was a no-brainer for us especially given the halogens are little better than candles. I've since upgraded my LED fogs with Diode Dynamic options. No regrets at all.

Nothing for you on towing. I don't tow much at all.

Thank you so much.. I have heard in some cars that the outlets are worthless... The biggest draw to that package was the outlet so I could plug electronics in for shorter tailgates...

If the OP is mainly worried about an outlet in the bed, then you're absolutely right. But, from the OPs post it sounds like they also might be wanting this package for the lockage storage.

IMHO, I'd do the trail rail package. Sure the outlet might be "meh", but between the rails themselves and the lockable storage it's a nice to have - plus the lockage storage isn't easy (or cheap) to add after the fact, so if the OP is wanting that clean look then I'd just do it and not over think it.

I can't stress enough that if you even have an inkling of a desire to have one of the packages, just get it. I can't speak for everyone, but I know I have found myself regretting not getting multiple packages. Way easier to do it now. I've considered trading mine in for a spec'd version but I have Gator and that hurts to get rid of.

The outlet is a big draw.. I assume I could find some kinda lockable storage and if I go hardtop that isn't as critical. I will look aftermarket and look into what the OEM lockable is like.

Which package do you regret not getting?

I regret not getting the aux switches and that trail rail package. Don’t care about the LED light group but some folks on here swear by them.

I 100% recommend getting the LED package. If you opt for the Safety package it throws in the LED rear lights as well. The halogens are pretty much useless, and was one of the first things I replaced. The Adaptive cruise is full speed, and will stop, speed up, slow down etc based on traffic around you. That’s one of the biggest things I wish I had. The other two being the factory LED and safety packages. Aux switches are a no brainer for how cheap the option is.

If I had to custom order I don't think I would have gotten the LEDs. Now that I've owned them, however, I think it'd be crazy to not have them.

IMHO, if I were to custom order today, I'd spec my Rubicon like this:

  • Upgraded Rims
  • M/T tires
  • black hard top
  • slush mats
  • remote start
  • aux switches
  • cold weather package
  • active safety group
  • LED lights
  • trail rail management system
  • tow package
  • gas engine
  • auto transmission
Boom! I took all the guess work out of it, now all you gotta do is pick a color

Both safety packages for the win. Amazing options, both now and in the future.

Adaptive is really nice in Chicago traffic, but it does still make me nervous. I think the min set speed is 20 MPH, but it will crawl to follow the cars in front of you at 5-6 MPH. I think stop & go is the real headache, but again I don't have enough experience with using it enough to know as I've only had it a few weeks now.

The minus I see, personally, for the trail rails is that they are up by the bedrails. If you're tying down a motorcycle, hauling large items, etc then they could be great.

For me, I want to tie down things like coolers and my recovery gear, so I would prefer rails built into the floor instead, like L-Track.

Selec Trac is a big one that people overlook. I would also go for the cold weather package regardless of climate.

As far as the safety and adaptive cruise packages go, one thing to consider is if you plan to lift or replace bumpers or so forth. Most of those systems lose effectiveness once the vehicle is significantly altered.

Well doing the Mojave.. but this is close.

I wasn't looking at the cold weather package bc I live in Ga.. like it gets cold here 15days a year. But I was doing the remote start. The cold weather package is a small jump over the remote start.. hadn't noticed that at all.

I also like the black rims of the Mojave and I don't want to upgrade tires bc I want to go up a size with the 2nd set.. so I am not really trying to speed more on that for the first batch.
