Any fabricators out there?

Looking for a way to haul my wife's paddleboard and my surfboards without pulling the back panel on the soft top and passing them through. I used to have this type or rack on several of my pickups growing up and wondered if anyone has or has seen something like this that addressed the wheel well obstruction in the front of the bed, as Thats where the forward rack would be mounted. I might have to contract a fabricator to make something. The best part about these racks in my opinion is that they won't interfere with the soft top and you can take them down very easily below the bed rail when not needed for a clean look.

What are you guys doing to carry paddleboards? My wife's is 12', my shorter surfboards are no problem in the bed but my longboards range from 9' to 10' and hanging that much out the back makes me nervous. Maybe it is what it is but there has to be a better way.

I've considered an over the cab rack but can't seem to find one for the JT that pivots allowing use of the soft top.

Any and all ideas welcome.

since you already have a softopper, that really limits your options, might want to look at putting a bedrack over the top of it and then what about using kayak racks or contractor cargo bars mounted to that? I have the xtrusion overland bedrack on top of my softopper and couldn't be happier with it, company was also great to deal with...

cheapest solution I could think of is to go on amazon and get the rain gutter cargo rails for the roof and strap your shit to them, could use a pool noodle for padding so it doesn't mess up your gear

Thanks, not really looking for something permanent though or something that covers the whole bed, plus the longer boards would still hang way over the tailgate, just up higher. And yeah if I had the hard top I'd just slap some Thules on it and call it a day but the soft top was half the reason I got the Jeep here in Florida. I'll figure something out, probably get something fabricated.

What about Yakima bed racks that are adjustable and removable, you might get used to having the front one left on. They are aluminum , used set might be cheaper then any fabricator then painting….Jack

God, Yakima is proud of those racks like $1200, perhaps something like this at $228?

I have a setup that does what you are looking for. I use the Agricover Adirack aluminum series, but ordered the uprights for an F-150. This gives taller uprights and wider crossbars. I added the height extending accessory blocks, and use a Thule SUP Taxi on the cross bars. It provides plenty of clearance for the soft top in the open position. For surfboards, I just use extra thick rack pads on the other side, and it provides enough clearance. In my application, I fabricated custom mounts so the tonneau cover would still work, but the stock bedrail mounts would work fine as well if you don’t care about that. The SUP Taxi is a very nice way to secure the board, quick, easy and locking if you need that. Sorry I don’t have shots with boards on and soft top open, but I used it that way all summer and it was great. Note that I added the Adirack Overlan Rack Accesory (the horizontal aluminum T-slot bars) which really stiffen up the racks and make them super solid. I highly recommend that accessory.
