Picking up new camper...no brake controller

I used this one and I did have some issues just FYI - I know other on here do like it though. It not really secure in the 7 pin andyYou have to unlock and find your phone to press override if trailer sways.

Mine actually broke after a week the left brake light wasnt working - Amazon refunded me and I got the Redarc.
If you dont want a cabin mounted option also can check out the prodigy rf

Thanks for the info. My plan is to only have to use the Echo for 30 miles to get the camper home from the dealer. It has the anti-sway/load leveling hitch, so hopefully not too much sway. It's a direct route and no hills. I'm in OH, so we're not camping until May. Hopefully the factory option is available by then.

Only if your pulling in Ohio. If you travel anywhere, you should make yourself familiar the the state your passing through's laws. Some states require you to have a break away switch for the brakes should the trailer unhook, that too is determined by weight of trailer, different in different states as well.
I doubt if you would ever get a ticket from a law enforcement officer because they probably would be familiar with the lower limits.
When you need brakes, you need them badly!

I cant imagine a new trailer at that weight that doesnt have electric brakes.

No idea about camper trailers, but plenty of livestock and horse trailers at that weight with surge brakes. My 18’ Ranger has dual axles but still has surge brakes.

I am going to use the Redarc from e-trailer. I like the idea of hiding the main unit under the dash and then place the small control knob in a convenient place

Jeep didn't include a diode so all aftermarket controllers will require a diode to prevent back talk to the Jeeps computer. Otherwise you will get some errors on the dash when you use the override and prob some future issues.

Unless you use a harness with a diode which I think tek makes one for a ram but then you have to switch some colors. The Curt and tekosha harness for Cherokee work with JT but need the diode.

There's a couple of good write-ups here in the forum about the diode, why, what it does, and even a picture or two I think. It was pretty detailed as a member or two used other controllers several weeks ago with success - and a diode - and no feedback to the Jeep that may cause errors.

Tekonsha makes a JL/JT specific harness now with the diode and the correct wiring, part number is 3073-P.

Mostly overtime the back talk could create issues . Did you ever press the override without a trailer connected? Not that you would but ..that will illuminate your dash.

The issue is related to the vehicle. They should have included a diode in the brake light circuit at the electric brake plug. This issue will happen with ALL brake controllers, not just the Tow Pro."

Seems like tek has a harness with diode now so could buy that and cut connector the off splice end.

Which harness did you use for the Redarc? If you used the Redarc harness for the Ram and switched the blue/black wires then you’re good, it has the diode already in it.

Yes obviously the wireless ones are exempt . This is referring to hard wired controllers. Those that plug into the 7 pin not included
