I have been scouring the internet for deals on JTRs and I have have run across several 2020 models sitting on lots in different parts of the country. Assuming I could find one with the options I want, what is the negatives of buying a 2020 when the 2022s are likely to come out soon?

Thanks!!

Do you mean 2020s still on the lot, or 2021s? It really doesn't matter, because not much changed from 2020 to 2021, unless you're going for the diesel. Likewise, not much will change for 2022, unless you're going for the rumored 4xe (or v8 anyone?). I'd say go for it. It's a jeep. They kind of always look the same. So if it has the options you're looking for, at the price you're willing to pay, go for it.

Thanks for the feedback! It really is a brand new 2020 not a 2021. I will check it out on Monday.

About the biggest thing that might be a bit of a con is the steering box on the 2020 gladiators was silver colored and aluminum, they have a TSB out that they will replace it with an improved one. I would have to wonder how they have 2020 new unused Jeeps on the lot after the tidal wave of buyers cleaning the lots out, remember it is new but once you drive off the lot it is almost two years old in everyones eyes, price has to be great!….Jack

If a dealer has a new 2020 it tells me they do not deal. A well priced 2020 would have been long gone.

I would. Not a second thought. A good deal (presumably) and you get a brand new vehicle. They all hold their value. There’s a 2018 MT Rubi JL on a lot near me. 38K. Unknown mileage though.

I've been eyeing a number of leftover MY2020 in my area since about March. Have been sending messages every month until about May offering an aggressive offer (discount amounting to about 20% off the sticker but would probably settle for 17 - 18%). The counter offers I have received amounted to a lesser discount that a comparably equipped MY2021. This is when I pretty much gave up. Just checked the inventory again and a number of them are still sitting on the lot, priced unchanged since March. Insane if you ask me but it is what it is. Good luck hunting for a deal but don't get your hopes up.

Once the 2022 is out. They should at least give you a minimum of 15% off. Depreciation.
I'm thinking more like 25% before they even get my attention.

They will simply bring the car to Manheim and sell it slightly below or at MSRP, where the Wall Street car buyers are eating all inventory Vroom, Carmax and Carvana. The only way they may make a decent deal 6 or 7% is on a trade or if you're financing. imo

Gotta be realistic. Jeep Wranglers only depreciate about 30-35% after 3 years "used" normal market. The Gladiator is too new, but probably about the same.

It's still new and only a year old.

Even better than that for Sport/ Sport S and Willys. Risidual Values show 25%-27% for these after 3 years and 30k miles.

Residual values are expected estimates for leases. We don't know the true value of a Gladiator. It hasn't been out long enough and then Covid happened.

Residuals are a good "guess" on future market value.

Pretty much this. A new unsold vehicle even a model year or two old is not like a jug of expired milk laying around. A dealer will discount it but not the full two year used depreciation percentages.
