I'm not aware of the drive shaft recall, wondering if mine is not affected but as for the Pulsar symptoms...I got a check engine light, Service Electronic Stability Control light and Jeep went into limp mode (reduced throttle response and limited to 3,000 RPMs). I couldn't clear the code with my tuner. When I decided to take it to the dealership, I disconnected the negative battery terminal and pulled the Pulsar. All the lights were gone and there ended up being only a stored code which said the computer sensed a fault that was no longer there. Edge sent me a new programmer but I can't honestly say it had updated software. I drove about 7,000 miles with the first one and have 10,000 miles on the replacement. Got the same situation a few weeks ago. Same lights and limp mode, however this time limp mode went away after I turned the Jeep off and on, as did the ESC light. The CEL stayed on, but I was able to clear it with my scan tool and it hasn't come back sense. My new scan tool app said the computer sensed throttle position discrepancies. But I just cleared everything and I have had no issues. Still getting about 20-21 mpgs on highway trips, 18.5-19 in combined drivi

ATX and GTFlyer just out of curiosity what model Gladiators do you have?

Spoke to Edge they said they have had less than 10% of units fail so trying to see if there is any common deniminator between people we know have had failed ones.

Thanks

Did they happen to say how many units they've actually sold?

FWIW I run Edge Attitude on my Duramax, and had it on my last Duramax too. I like them the best for a canned tuner solution.

Shopping for a tuner now and this is troubling. It’s a PITA having one of these go haywire and to be honest, 10% error rate would shut most places down. That’s a faulty product and you don’t want to mess with the ECM vía a bad product.

I feel the same on this, just happen to be one of the guys stuck with it...I honestly prefer a OBDII plug in style one compared to one like this that plugs directly into the ECM.

Who makes the OBDII style?

Not sure if anyone does yet, there is a superchips trailcal that plugs into the OBDII but it doesn't tune by itself, still needs the Pulsar. Bullydog made one that I had on my 2012 JK but honestly I never really noticed any benefits from the tunes on that one. The Pulsar tunes are at least noticeable

I just installed the Pulsar by Edge products and I really like it. It is a tuner, but plugs into the ECM, not the OBDII port like other tuners I've used in the past. That made me nervous and it will be a pain to remove for when the Jeep needs to go to the dealership. It can be updated via the OBDII but you need an OBDII to USB cable to do it.

It has a stock, economy, tow and performance tune. Adjusts tire size, gear ratios, TPMS settings and allows memory hold for ESS.

I was getting about "16 mpg" after putting my 35's on my Rubicon manual transmission. After I installed the Pulsar I am getting 21+ mpg on the economy tune with slightly better throttle response. I have a Gibson exhaust coming this week and hope to see some slight improvements after that as well.
Morning, how many miles would you say you have on the tuner?

I'm at about 19,000 now on the original/replacement...7,000 on the first one and about 12,000 on the replacement

Thank you. I have the Rugged Ridge and finally got around to changing the tune again over the weekend. Much better but it would be nice to adjust on the fly without having to re flash.

I approached the convo in a way that 10% seemed like a lot considering on the entire internet I can only find 5 people that say they owned one. The guy said that until recently when the price of the Glads dropped there is a lot of the units on the street now and if they thought that it was an issue they would gladly replace it for me but they didn't think it was worth it to remove it from the vehicle. I explained that the Jeep is a cold climate vehicle and will only be used in very extreme conditions and I would be very upset if I was trying to remove it to mail it back in a hotel parking lot in 0 degree weather since the Jeep lives over 2k miles away from me.

He continued to insist that I should not worry and there are several reasons they have issues some of which are install mistakes, running tuner on top of tuner, new vehicle software issues, playing with programming and conflicts, etc.

He also said that would replace all of them if they thought there was an issue not to Ruin their reputation and there are lots of units on the street on the JL's without issue.

I am not using mine on top of another tuner, but they do say you can use the Pulsar with their Trailcal. Install mistakes are pretty difficult to make in my opinion and I do believe that Jeep probably has their own software issues, but the fix for those are dealer flashes which will require removal of the Pulsar and I would think updates to the Pulsar programming to account for any new factory programming.
