Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase a Gladiator without some factory included packages that I don't really want?

I have an appointment at a dealer Saturday to go look at a few Overlands and a lot of the ones they have listed have some extra factory options that I really don't need, namely the dual top package. Are they able to sell me the car without the second top for instance? A few of them have some other things I don't necessarily need, but that was the big one that a few of them did have that I'd probably prefer to leave off.

Technically they are supposed to sell it as equipped. If you don’t truly want the soft top, just list it here and you should be able to get your money back. The Hardtop option is $1000-$1100 and the dual top is $2100. sell the soft top on here for $1000 and you’ll break even.

That's about what I figured for the options. My guess was if it's on the window sticker, it needs to be sold that way. Good to know that the soft tops re-sell pretty well if I end up with one with that option.

Are there any near by that have the options you're looking for? The dealer can trade to other dealerships if they want. They'll usually loose some of their hold back, but it might make sense.

I'm still digging around to check. Most of them either seem to be missing a few things or have options I don't need.

Dunno...I just bought mine with the hard top only...but, it's a Rubicon, not sure about the Overland.

Was yours listed with the dual top package on the window sticker? You can certainly buy it with just a hard top, but I'm guessing you have to buy both tops if that's what's listed on the window sticker. Not all of the ones I'm looking at are listed with both, but a decent number of them are.

Again, don't know...it was how I built it...he (the salesman) asked how I wanted it and I said just the hard top (of course with all the other options I wanted).

Yeah, if you ordered it, you can definitely just get the hard top. This was more for on the lot options where it's already listed on the window sticker. I wasn't sure if they could essentially take that factory option off and do a new window sticker. It's not the end of the world if I had to sell the second top, I was just curious if anyone had negotiated the removal of anything like that from the listing.

The window sticker is how it ships from the factory and how it is supposed to be sold. The dealer cannot make changes and have the window sticker reprinted. You can make a separate arrangement with the dealer to keep removable parts, like the soft top, and adjust the sales price, but the dealer is not likely to give you full value for the items. You are better off to negotiate the best deal possible, and then sell the unwanted items later.

Use the unwanted options as part of the negotiation. When the negotiations stall, tell them you don't want to pay for the options that you don't want in the first place.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I talked to one of their sales guys briefly on the phone to set up an appointment (since that's the only way you're allowed in) and we talked about some basics in what I'm looking for, but not really what I don't need yet. I'm trying to slow play things right now anyway. I've basically just told him I'm looking at mid-size pickups and I'm just starting to talk to dealers now. I'm slow playing things partly because I'm hoping maybe they try to incentivize things a bit more for Memorial Day.

Sounds like you need to either find the actual vehicle configured how you want or custom order. It is not the dealers problem if the vehicle you are negotiating on has more feature than you wanted or their problem to take off or sell unwanted extras.

The dealership cost on a particular dealer stock vehicle is pretty much static as built minus the usual corporate hold backs. Taking stuff off that was "as built" or packaged does not make financial sense for them.

Makes sense. I was just curious really. I've never run into this scenario when I purchased any of the previous vehicles I've owned so I figured I'd ask if anyone had run into that. I wasn't sure how flexible something like this was when the item is more or less an accessory. I'll find a Gladiator that is close enough somewhere, I just figured I'd ask here before I asked the dealer directly.
