I've been watching some videos and everyone is dragging their hitch.

Won’t hurt it and it’ll save your bumper etc. Back in the day my hitch on my XJ worked better than a gas tank skid. Basically something is going to drag, might as well be a piece of steel...

Same for my TJ. That thing was super beat.

I'll eventually get a hitch skid

I keep mine off unless I’m towing, because I can here it clunking when I drive over the speed bumps in my neighborhood. It Took me a dit to figure out what it was I thought I had a bad bushing or something, but fortunately it was just the receiver rattling.

but to answer your question I wouldn’t worry about it unless you are going to be upset if your receiver is scuffed up.

That’s why I ordered mine without the towing package. I plan to eventually have a high clearance bumper built, and I don’t want to drag that box around in the meantime.

I removed mine when wheeling. The hitch mount extends just past the bumper so I seen no reason to leave it in making my truck 8" longer. I do plan on making a hitch slider this winter that will not extend much past the hitch mount .

I take mine off when I'm wheeling but leave it on otherwise. Though I don't tow anything I find that people look out a little bit more for trailer hitches and seem to want to hit them less. It provides just that little bit more "protection" for me :) Though I do hear it jiggling around, that is annoying.

I haven't looked, but I'm going to guess bolts.

It's more about improved departure angle than it is about scratching.

How does one take off the factory mounted receiver?
One way is to use it as a recovery point. Jerk at it as hard as you can that guy is really stuck good. Get a good long run at it. Do this until it rips out from under your truck. YouTube will have plenty of reference videos.
