I agree with not having the hitch on while towing.

However, it’s not a great idea to have that thing under the seat unless it’s strapped in like the jack... if you were to get in a wreck and roll, it will come out from under the seat, and if it hits you or your passenger, the outcome will not be good. I’ve seen too many unsecured items in MVC’s do a lot of harm to passengers... sorry to be a downer, just a lot of people don’t think about it.
I see your point but the way I see it, if I roll my truck, there will be a great many things flying around the cabin including glass and shattered fiberglass from the hard top not to mention my soda and other loose items. Granted the draw bar is solid and heavy but most times it stored behind the seat however you do make a good point as to whether that aluminum weigh safe hitch would stay behind the seat (would the seat back latch hold) in a head on collision?

I keep forgetting that some have that option. I sure wish I had in on mine, I think every jeep gladiator or wrangler should have it standard!
However, there is less space in the lockable storage.
Also, with this model there are a lot of variables.

I have the weigh safe hitch also, great hitch! It’s still pretty heavy. I’m thinking behind the seats with the seat lock will be OK, but if your lower seats are like mine those things come up easy especially if they were upside down...

And now that I’m thinking about it I doubt that wimpy Velcro would hold the jack in place in a rollover...

I don't like rust on my balls.

The hitches I have come off and get stored in the garage as soon as I get the trailers back home.

This would depend on where you are wheeling in Fl I mainly leave my drawbar in last time I got stuck badly we used the drawbar as the winch point.

Pic is from my Cayenne setup, not a Jeep. 3 years of use in FL and good as new and I live a block from the sea.

I bought this one on Amazon... Heres the link. $90

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CWBGCHB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I chose this one because I preferred the step to the "O" recovery point to the one someone else posted above.... Even though if you click on my link and in the pictures it says this one has a recovery point??? I dont know where but I'll use my red bumper hooks.

Looks like from the pictures its hard to tell, but its just all black with silver on the step part.

Looks like its on backorder though.

I found the recovery point on this one.

Remove from hitch, place strap through hole in skid and the loop of the strap around the shank, then reinstall in hitch.

Most of the receiver skid plate designs look like they would act as dredging anchors if they hit a root or a rock, more so than if there was a bare receiver there to begin with.

I agree with the comments on here about the receiver skid plates looking like they would catch on stuff and drag terribly, but if you see one from underneath, the front of the plate is almost up against the spare leaving very little room for anything to get caught (from what I can see in photos anyway). If you move your spare before wheeling, that changes the game a bit.
