As people have noted for - well, since the 1950s, non-essentials, what are considered luxuries or unnecessary nice to have things - they are always higher because typically, normally, those who go after them "can afford them".
Since I started working with cars I've seen options, accessories, that sort of stuff, always way up there in price.
Things are priced based on the typical buyer's ability to pay or what are they willing to pay.
It's figured if you have such a vehicle, you want a lift, you'll pay for it and be happy.
Let's be honest - even of the forum members, how many have lifts and huge tires and NEED them?
Or is it a "that's cool, I want that" or even "that's how they look good, gotta have it".
Most if people were honest and dropped the danged pride thing.
Well I am guilty on the tires and rims cause well the stock tires and rims looked so out of place on my truck. So I went with some Rubi take offs but I didn't pay much for those compared to what people have been trying to sell theirs for. It wasn't a need thing as its my daily driver and got better gas mileage stock. It was "Looks so much better thing LOL" . Same with Bumper didn't need the Arcus just looks way better. Now if my JT had come with the Rubicon steel bumper as standard I probably would not have changed bumpers

At the risk of being swatted by mods, I'm going to toss this into the conversation...

The worst part is when companies KNOW their products are way overpriced, but they tout the "MADE IN THE USA" shtick as if that justifies price gouging.

I'm all for supporting local businesses, small businesses, whatever, but there has to be a middle ground. National pride and wanting to keep our dollars on our side of the pond isn't worth paying twice the price for the same item that was imported with a different brand label on it.

They look better too... IMO... especially when modded a little...

I will agree 100% I bought a house in 1999 for 46 k in 2003 the house was assessed at 76-87k in value the house wasn't worth in no way 76k maybe 50-55k no way 60k or more.
Hmm, we bought ours for $420k, remodeled with another $100k, and a year later can sell it for nearly $800k, possibly more...

The market here is unique though... A lot of high tech, defense, and aerospace coming into this area.

For me its shocks....3000-5000$ for 4 shocks? Get real.

Plus these jeeps are crazy capable with only a minor lift. You really really dont need that 18 arm triple forged heim joint with bypass bump stop shocks if your not on 42's with a bobbed bed.
Dare I say it?

The sticker shock truly is shocking…

I’ll see myself out.

The house I was referred to is in GA. and not near here. :like: no NASA, FBI, Gov contractor money there.
 any the assessment was to drive up the city, county and state taxes. Some how that house sprouted a extra bedroom and bathroom.? I was told the house was a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom "it somehow grew" while I was deployed for over a year. It did good when I refinanced.

Most of our mod products are niche so not as many are sold as, for example, normal sized tires or factory replacement parts. The companies that sell the items we desire sell fewer of them but still have overhead, employees to pay, taxes, etc. They sell fewer products so profit margins must be higher on certain items for their businesses to survive. Do your research and make sure you will be COMPLTELY satisfied before dropping your cash down.
I would be soooo much better off financially if I never would have bought a Jeep in the first place but I enjoy it and I have but one life.

They are not holding the cure for cancer hostage. If the market is there to undercut the pricing and keep it made in the USA and make a profit, somebody will enter that market.

Stuff made here costs if you expect the people they employ to have a decent wage and heaven forbid the owners actually eek out a profit when it is all said and done.

It is easy to internet armchair that something should cost this or that because something seems simple to make. Rarely do people take in the costs and overhead to bring such things to market and think something should be cheap because they took a High School welding class and could do it in their garage for themselves on a one off basis.

Remember also:

Some companies price high since so many consumers believe higher price = quality/best out there. Just look at Fab4 dog shit items.
