https://rebeloffroad.com/regearmyjeep/How much does it typically cost to go to 4.88? (gears and installation)
Even though Mopar has gear sets, the dealer will only do an axle swap. Minimum $2500 per Axle! Told them to pound sand!Gotcha. Yea I guess dealership prob don’t do a lot of re gearing.
So prob 4.88. Is G2 brand good brand go with ?
Dang! I wish I lived near by. I have to do some more researching here in South Florida but I'm sure I can find something comparable. Thanks for that!
Thoughts on the best gears for the diesel with 37’s?I have a shop and we've done 4.88s, 5.13s & 5.38s on new JLs & JTs with 37s. They 4.88s have the most "stock" feel like this is the way it should feel from the factory. Gives it more punch off the line and holds 8th gear at highway speeds without dropping in and out of 7th.
I personally went with 4.88s in mine and have no regrets.
Diesels have more torque so if the 4.88s work well which they do on my 3.6L JT than I wouldn’t think you need anything different. And like Flu said, that pinion gear starts getting pretty Small after 4.88sThoughts on the best gears for the diesel with 37’s?
Thats not right. Sounds like he's living in the JK world where the 3.8 is the underpowered king. To give you and idea, most folks run 5.38s with 40s on the 2.5L 4 cylinder TJs. 4.88 will equal stock ride, 5.13 will leave you room for 40s in the future, and 5.38 are torque monster for Offroad/towing. Most folks in JTs are running 4.88 for 37s, and 5.13 for 40s to stay in the stock power band/transmission shifts.Edit. Found one. Quoted $2500. Front & rear using Yukon or Dana gears.
But told me I should go 5.38 min. ????
Said he did 4.88 in his. & it never went through all the gears. & said. He had to go 5.38. ?????
So idk
I have a Jeep Gladiator Sport S in gator also. I see you driving around all the time and would like to here about all the places you went to in our area to find prices for the gear change. I will need to do the same after I lift mine and get bigger tires.I have very base sport. Auto. Was only option I got.
I did the mopar lift. With 37’s & BR wheels.
this is my work tuck, so it’s driven daily.
I want to re-gear. So I’m curious what size gears do I go to to basically get back to stock performance/ mpg. Or the closest I can get. I’ll prob do a programmer to add a little power back also. I knew going into this I would lose mpg. & if it can’t get better. Well it is what it is. Tax write off anyways. But. Still be nice to get a little more back. Truck comp says I’m avg. 13.4. Which really isn’t terrible.
