Just checked the live webcam located in mid-town and it seems like the little town is still standing. I'm relieved. Hopefully tourism will help the town recover. That's at shame, such a beautiful area. I live about 5 hours from there and used to ride my motorcycle and even paraded with the motorcycles during the Golden Aspen.
I hope you and yours the very best.
I'm really sorry. I live in ABQ and we have some of the smoke up here. This must be one of the worst in that area in years. Please take care and thanks for the warning. You're right, life is too precious. Some of you may have heard about the catastrophic fires surrounding the beautiful Village of Ruidoso, NM. So far from an old update from yesterday, the fire is more than 23k acres and 1,400 structures have been destroyed. Due to bad weather tanker planes and spotting airplanes have not been able to fly since yesterday. There was no flight last night to collect infrared imagery to provide an updated map of the fire footprint. As of now my family and I are on hot standby at our home which is about 4 miles north of where the fire was yesterday morning. Not knowing if our 18 acres of forested land and our house is in imminent danger is nerve racking as we have not been unable to get any information since yesterday. For that reason we loaded up our camper with food, water, clothes, emergency supplies, important documents and some of our property that hold sentimental value. This is a very stressful situation but we are not willing to risk our lives trying to save property unlike our neighbors that keep dating they will stay and fight the fire with hoses. Crazy and futile idea. We will evacuate if in imminent danger. I'm sure many of you live in forests, please be prepared and leave if ordered. Property can be replaced.

Not a bad idea. Thanks. Will look into it.Glad to see your packed up and ready to hit the go button. Sure does suck for everyone involved but the cool thing is this here Jeep community Im' sure has someone close to you that would let you post up in their back yard if things got wild.
When it all calms down, look into your county extension office and/or the local NCRS or DNRC/DNR office - every state seems to call it something different. Many states have fire wise programs that help pay for fire abatement and other related wildfire risk reduction things. That might (emphasis on might) help pay for a sprinkler system or at least get your well/cistern/pump up to par to help keep your house and surrounding areas wet in the future. Washington, for example, some 5 years ago had their firewire program that would pay up to half of a $10,000 fire wise project - depending on details of course. The cool thing is the WA DNR would actually do most of the grant paperwork for you. Just something to consider exploring.
Stay safe!
Are you still home, or did you roll out?Not a bad idea. Thanks. Will look into it.
We almost left the day before the rains started. We are home. I think our area is safe due to the firefighters efforts and the fact that the fire from a month ago left a burn scar that left no fuel for the new fire to take that path. Although, had the fire had gotten bigger as it was moving northeast, its' quite possible that it could have affected our area when the winds shifted to the northwest. Luckily it didn't and it rained. We'll see how it goes when it warms up again and humidity drops. Are you still home, or did you roll out?
So glad to hear. We had a similar experience a few years ago in Colorado. A storm is the only reason we were able to avoid evacuation. It was out of firefighters control, and in the beginning, air support was tied up elsewhere. We watched it start from campfire size from the parking lot adjacent our kids’ school. It spread incredibly quickly. We almost left the day before the rains started. We are home. Wow. This one is still under investigation. People are saying the rumor is arson. So glad to hear. We had a similar experience a few years ago in Colorado. That kills me. The fact that wildfires are often started by people on purpose. It makes me want to scream.Wow. This one is still under investigation. People are saying the rumor is arson.
