Rear Ended Today

was involved in a twenty car pileup this morning on some icy conditions.

was rear ended at what had to be around 30 mph. Hard to tell. Although he did have a dash cam that captured the accident.

I think my ball mount took the brunt of the hit.

Dang he hit fast! Don't know the whole set of circumstances but was he going a bit fast for conditions? Doesn't matter what the speed limit is if you are going faster than what allows you to maintain control and seeing all the carnage up ahead - did he even try to slow? OR was he not looking until he got within 100 yards?

Smittybilt Beaver Step (Black) - 27046B. It’s main purpose it an anchor point. You run the loop of a strap or rope through the center then loop it around the ear of the step.

I put the skateboard tape on as it can get a little slick when wet. When I had this on my XJ, I was rear ended in Arlington, TX waiting for a light. I looked in my mirror and saw the back of a guys head as he was digging for something in his rear seat. The XJ has a crappy thin rear bumper. It had a minor paint transfer scuff to the paint. The car that hit me was totaled as the beaver tail mashed the bumper, drew in the frame horns and ended up cracked his block. It’s been on all of my vehicles since…except for 1 and it didn’t have a receiver hitch.

I roll with a solid aluminum drop hitch.. nice and shiny, are you sure thats where you want to stop!

Take it to a body shop for an estimate.

Local law here……..Nothing is allowed in your receiver when driving.
Unless of course your towing a trailer.
Never heard of a ticket by anyone, not even those with the big pink balls hanging from the receivers.

I leave my hitch in most all the time. I have probably had 5 people roll into one at stop lights and signs. Never any damage to my vehicle but sure does a job on their bumper. I use the backup camera to make sure it does not hang over a sidewalk or the white line between parking spaces.

One of the reasons I have Blizzak's on a second set of rims that I switch out every winter.
