I have a 2021 Sport, Manual shift with Rubicon wheels/tires. Drove over a speed bump I've driven over without issue 100's of times at very low speed and today the two outer panels of the hardtop rear glass shattered as I went over it, but not the sliding center glass. Is this a known problem and do I really have to replace the whole damn hardtop now?
UPDATE: Thanks for all the responses. I ended up getting the window replaced for $550. Unfortunately they did a shit job reattaching the power line for the window defroster which fell off when I tried to slide the center window open. They also decided, using their pea sized brains, that knocking out the old glass without putting a tarp over the rear, cloth seats to catch the pieces was a real good idea. It took me 2 hours and 6 band aids on my fingers to vacuum the damn glass out of the seats and carpet. "Windshield Express! We're Rated #1 in the area by Yelp!" Fuck Yelp and Fuck their reviewers. Total bullshit.

comprehensive insurance might pay for that

I have not heard of that issue but would think the whole back window could be replaced by safelite or whoever. I had the sliding section of a rear window break on a Tacoma years ago and allstate paid 100% even though it was my fault it was broken

Not a "known problem" but a believable thing as the whole truck flexes a bit over certain types of bumps. The proof is in a noise that no one can find on mine while going over certain types of bumps. Something is flexing and shifting and making noises.

Make sure the top is torqued on, not cinched down ungodly tight. There's a reason for the specs.
Too loose and you have leaks and rattles and loose screws, too tight and things can flex and bust. The window is not glued in using urethane for a reason.

If I were to venture a guess, I'd assume someone misread the hardtop's torque value (66 inch pounds) and dialed in 66 foot pounds.

That makes sense. I will check those bolts though Ive never had the hardtop off since new so possibly they came loose. Thanks for the reply.

I shattered my rear window offroading. Same thing, the two outside panels broke and the slider was in tact. You can get the rear glass replaced. It was much cheaper from a glass company than the dealer. I paid around $550 including install.

I thought hardtop bolt specs is 155 inch pounds +/- 22 inch pounds? Either way don't confuse that for 155 foot pounds or there's gonna be some problems haha

After reading this i'm thinking i'll at least back off on the bolts to just a hair more than finger tight to give it some room to flex. Or maybe i don't want it to and instead it should be tightly fastened to the tub? QUIEN SABE!

I've been riding around with only four bolts in my top for almost three years now.?

On another note, I replaced my back glass with a breezer single removable window about a year ago. Around $500 for the window and shop charged $90 for the install.

Not sure what type of noise you’re hearing, but back awhile ago, I was getting a clicking noise from under the Jeep when it flexed over bumps. Turned out to be loose skid plates.

It started after they worked to replace a broken left body mount bolt (one I broke tightening it back up after installing power steps). The service advisor said "he was able to replace it without lifting the cab" but the work order says "lift cab to replace broken body mount bolt".
I'll never know which it was. It started out hard to reproduce unless you were making certain moves over just the right type of bump. Hard to recreate to get them to be able to reproduce and hear it. Now it happens a lot, all sorts of bumps and turns. It's definitely from under the truck.
I had never even thought of skid plates - will have to check those bolts.
I already checked the body mount bolts - those are tight.

I tighten mine down, otherwise you get "squeaks" when it gets cold here in Massachusetts. No issues in 3 years and I've taken my share of fast speed bumps. I only do mild, occasional off - road driving (mud, sand). It's still my daily driver with 70k miles.

I keep mine at 165 in lb or else it makes a horrible squeak. i was talking about loosening them for off-road flexing stuff.
