Apologies if already covered. My first truck several decades ago had a solid rear window. The next two had/have the gun port/beer cooler access which were/are never used even with a matching window on the shells. So a few questions-what is the usefulness of said portal? Should Jeep offer the solid rear window option? For those going capless, would a hard top flip up solid with a remove feature be desirable? I would buy it in either form.

JT like it's JL cousin is primarily a lifestyle vehicle. As such, I do not see a solid rear window option being something in the future regardless of how little people may use it. The aftermarket window installers like Safelite and others may eventually offer a solid window but that may only be because the current OEM window is almost $1K to replace even if you break the small sliding window because it is all one assembly.

Last week I had the windshield in the F150 replaced, at home, 180 clams. Safelite was over 300. USAF veteran company bonded licensed and insured. 1000 for the rear? Ouch.

I think they should have made the slider part bigger. Or, they should have figured out a way to make the WHOLE rear window powered and slide completely down into the back of the Jeep body (like a Tundra does). How cool would that be?

The back window makes driving with any other windows opened much more pleasant, due to better airflow. I just wish the window opening was bigger, and remote controlled. I also love driving the soft top with just the rear plastic window out, and the top still on as a sunshade or in cooler temps.

I'm working on a design using a 3D printer for an insert that allows the rear bed window to be left open slightly. Right now the design has a half inch opening with a downward slanted grill vent in the hopes of avoiding all or an acceptable amount of rain. The fixture will also lock the window from the inside which may or may not remain a feature.

More to follow as I overcome some little problems with angled printing.

I like this idea. Much like the older Broncos where you roll the rear window down and then take the top off.

I have actually found several uses for the little sliding window. I mainly use it for a place to stick my long fishing pole through and on occasion long pieces of wood stock because the bed is so short.

EXACTLY that same concept! :like: It would have only made sense to do this for the Gladiators with the Freedom Top option.

I have the Sundowner for Hardtop and it is super nice to open the rear glass, crack the back door windows down a bit and go. Very smooth and reasonably quiet. I think it is great that the slider is standard and not an option. Power would be nice , though.

How cool would that have been if they engineered a full size rear window that disappeared into the body and it worked for soft and hardtop JT. Engineers dropped the ball on that one.

I just don't think having a drop down window mechanism in a vehicle designed to be 30 percent submerged would work out very well. I'm sure the engineers toyed with the idea though. I am with everyone else though with regard to having the sliding window powered. Maybe if they read enough of these comments it will become an option in the future.
