Retired. Finally !!
Not that I need any sympathy from anyone here, but FML, I’ve now got a daily driver BMW X5 that goes in on the 24th for a recall repair because the starter can cause engine fires, and I’m waiting to hear when my 2021 JTRD will be repaired because the power steering pump can cause engine fires. I’m just hoping one of them burns my house down when my wife and I are at work!
Not me !! My house is where I keep all my cool stuff !!

Well I’m in there like swimwear!!!! Just checked with the ViN and I’m in ā€œThe Listā€.

I tried to connect the vin with the Jeep app at the same time and it told me I had to call an agent. First thought was,ā€ Well that’s never good.ā€ Anybody else get that?
As did mine. I tried calling this guy, he retired in 1968.

Don't worry about this affecting the re-sale or trade in value. It doesn't have any.

When I park for the evening, I plan to open the hood and check for a burning smell

I’m surprised what should be VO rated plastics maintain combustion when the heat source is removed

Could the fires be caused by other debris or biomass near the faulty connection?

Probably a good idea for everyone to lookup one of Shadow’sPapa’s guides to unhooking your batteries. I figure some folks will want to do that for long term parking and it’s not as straightforward as one would think.
I'm heading out of town next week, I was already thinking of doing this. The 2nd battery is already disconnected, so it's a simple job. I can park outside, but then I'm under a tree, which is next to my house anyway

I don't suppose you can unplug the connector and drive with no PS?

I was curious about this too. On an older belt driven system it’d be no problem, but idk if the computers would get pissed or not on these trucks.

I believe I have read here or elsewhere that dealers can’t sell the used vehicles on their lots with the recall unless the recall has been preformed and corrected. I wonder if this is true.
Those will be their first priority to fix if that’s the case

So many people in here are overreacting, there have been 71 fires out of 1.3 million affected vehicles; your chances of catching fire are 0.00005%

Can someone share to the mechanical noobs here where to look for said connector to make sure it looks okay?

I'd like to know also, just to get eyes on the harness. I won't be disconnecting and reconnecting the harness due to the nature of the problem... seems like asking for trouble.
My interpretation of the recall notice is that the connector to the EHPSP (electric hydrolic pump) is the target of concen. You can see this from underneath the engine bay, on the passenger side, above the frame, and just ahead of the front axle line. Here are some pics of what I saw when I looked:

Where to look:
Looking in from the front passenger-side wheel well:

I suspect this is what it should look like. Hopefully yours is not a distorted or melted glob of plastic.

Visually checked what I believe is the problem connection on mine, connector with small red tab in the background of pic below, it doesn’t show any visual signs of excess heat or shorting out. On the 3.0 it is very easy to see, just follow the hose from the bottom of your power steering fluid reservoir down to where it feeds the pump and the pump electrical connections are right next to it. I will probably try touch testing for heat after driving as well, although everything gets hot in the diesel engine bay after running for a while🤣

So, I was on the list at the government website. After reading all this thread now, I just checked the jeep app, no recalls listed and now the government site says I have no recallsā€¦šŸ˜‘

I’d rather park outside a few months and nothing happen than take the risk. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Same here. If the jeep goes up in flames, so does my other 2 cars, home, and family. Up till now all vehicles have lived in the garage when parked at home. I don't like it any more than anyone else, but I am a heavy sleeper, and don't want to wake up in an inferno!
