Why not have them give it to you at the same price? Their mistake.Looks like we aren't - they f'd up the order and put the recon package on it - NO NO NO.
So this one gets refused.

Probably because his wife has some mobility issues and the xtreme is 2.5-3" higher than the regular Rubicon? Why not have them give it to you at the same price? Their mistake.
No way she wants a lifted jeep with heavy 35" tires, really heavy tail gate and geared like that. Why not have them give it to you at the same price? Their mistake.
I remember doing some "hill topping" in IowaOur hills are weird - a lot of them, close together. They say we have mountains in the far corners, but I don't mind mountains compared to this -

well, the gearing isnt bad for the 35s. If I'm mathing right, 4.56 gears with 35s is only maybe 100-150 engine rpm higher than 4.10s with 33s at 55mph. If it was *JUST* the tires, you could tell them to swap, but with the gearing and the lift.....No way she wants a lifted jeep with heavy 35" tires, really heavy tail gate and geared like that.
Exactly - the thing will be lifted, there's the gearing, the heavier endgate due to the heavier and larger spare (which her custom tire cover wouldn't fit), the heavier steel hood, the extra weight would not be good, the extra height is a non-starter for her.well, the gearing isnt bad for the 35s. Good resale value though. No way she wants a lifted jeep with heavy 35" tires, really heavy tail gate and geared like that.
Buy it at the low price, sell it for a profit.Exactly - the thing will be lifted, there's the gearing, the heavier endgate due to the heavier and larger spare (which her custom tire cover wouldn't fit), the heavier steel hood, the extra weight would not be good, the extra height is a non-starter for her.
I recall even the sales guy told us it wouldn't be something for us (I'm pretty sure the sales manager plugged in the order after Scott, our sales guy gave him the papers)
The math even added up to the lower priced non-recon package so I'd bet the sales guy got it right, the manager put it through wrong.
There's just no simple way to fix this. They can't take off a single part, or tires or make simple changes to it - it would involved a lot of parts all over the thing
I know you've mentioned a holiday themed cover you put on around this time of year, but knowing what you've told us about her hobbies, I was wondering if she has another custom one for the rest of the year? My wife enjoys fiber arts, and this is her current one. She had a nicer one on the JK, and I know she's working on another one for the JLU (along with her many other projects).the heavier endgate due to the heavier and larger spare (which her custom tire cover wouldn't fit)

My wife has suggested ideas -Buy it at the low price, sell it for a profit.
The reinforcement doesn’t really make the tailgate feel heavy. It’s the weight of the 35” tire. No reason to remove something putting less stress on those hinges. She’d likely like how it closes better. My wife has suggested ideas -
Strip off the 35s, put 33s on it and see how it sits (getting rid of the tailgate reinforcement crap and spare relocation bits) and see how it goes........
otherwise
Order again this time stressing even MORE firmly - NO RECON, no 35" and no lift, and just go with the part time transfer case.
The problem with the JLU is also - it's almost impossible to get them all body color. They seem to love to bundle the black roofs and fenders.
That I know is a total NO
Or
Keep what she's got and let them sell it to someone else
Must be reign
Must be all body color - black just doesn't look right on the reign, and she hates the black roof and fenders anyway. She can't stand them
Power seats
All available safety packages, auto high beam and so on
She said that if we can't get something like she wants with full time transfer case, we'll settle for part time. I'd have to teach her how to use it and we'd have to figure out how she could reach across to move the lever as they don't shift easily at all. (don't ever tell her she can't do something - someone once told her that there was no way she could ever swim with her arms as they are - she very quickly proved them wrong)
Her current, standard one, closes easily with just a gently push. From fully open to closed, one easy movement. So I'm wanting to keep the same easy-ness of closing for anything new. It closes smoothly, and latches perfectly, and no leaks. The reinforcement doesn’t really make the tailgate feel heavy. It’s the weight of the 35” tire. I have a friend with a JLU extreme recon. Maybe he can answer whether it’s confirmed that they’re lifted. It’s his wife’s jeep. Does your red one have a lift @tredzlitely? Do you find that her tailgate closes more difficultly than on your yellow one? I’d guess it’s the opposite. Her current, standard one, closes easily with just a gently push. I can't imagine the 4.56 or whatever it is ratio with 33s, I think that, and the lift (which the sale guy argued the 35 setup isn't really lifted - yeah, it is. I'd bet it's the same sort of lift they sell as a 2" lift kit and they gets you 2" over stock height on a Rubicon.
So add a lift, and the roughly (very roughly) 1" lift the 35s vs 33s would give it, you are talking I bet about 3" higher total.
2" for the lift, 1" for the tires, vs. stock height with 33s.
