Our club was almost as bad controlled by old board members, only interested in trap and old school silluoette shooting. We started with pistol matches and getting younger people involved, it took a few years but now we have complete control of the club and it is growing faster than any other time. We do stuff at our 2 gun shoots that most other ranges will not allow, quite a bit of run&gun, shooting from moving golf carts and night shoots.

For the steel as long as you keep the minimum safe distance of 7 yards with a pistol you should not get any spalling hitting you and always use firearm rated steel.
Awesome job on the club….! Gives me hope that someday we can push towards being more modern & young. We need to get in touch (or convince)more folks to get involved and help out. Can’t have events if there’s no folks to run them.

Shooting steel story:
So we used to take different things to the range to shoot so we could get the experience of shooting them and see how rounds reacted going through different media. Car doors car windows house doors of different construction drywall plywood things like that. We took a propane tank out once to do this with. So buddy lines up on it and fires. Single round 9mm ball hits the tank with a satisfying “ting” but then we heard a thump behind us. We’re kinda like ok it ricocheted he probably heard that. He lined up on it again and we called to him. He’s like “I know I know”. Aimed in and fired again. Another “ting” and another thump then we yelled. He was hitting right above the weld line on a 20lbs tank and the round was bouncing up and back behind us. His reaction was “oh”. Good times. :CWL:
My one brother in law used to work at a junk yard. On Sundays we used to shoot in the back part of the yard. We would line up car doors and shoot through them. We see how many doors a 38, 357, 9mm, 45acp and 44 mag would go through. Used to shoot empty spray cans too. Get one about half full and hit it in the bottom. It would take off like a rocket. LOL Brother in law decided to shoot a tire mounted on a rim. We was about 50ft from it. He shot, we heard the thump on the tire, then the zing go between us. And then the hit on a car behind us. 😱 First and last time we tried that.

I believe it….What’s that saying…..1% of the people do 99% of the work?
Eventually that 1% get burned out and leaves. 😣 That’s true for any clubs we’ve been involved in.

I'm still on the hunt for a Glock 23C for my collection.

Still need to buy more threaded barrels for my other 42x MOS, 48x MOS and 19x. Might sell the other 43x MOS and buy another can

This statement followed by "I swore an oath to the constitution but if you didn't serve then you're just a poser!" 🤣

Bet you any one of the guys or girls at the training sessions that I go to would out shoot 94% of servicemen and LEO.

I'm willing to bet 95% of servicemen have never fired at a human target either. Not to discount their service, but after basic very few do anything more than any other boring ass job driving a truck or working in a warehouse. People who do it as a hobby train more and with more passion and focus than a kid that enlisted to avoid having to find a real job after high school.

So true I spent many years in the infantry and even being infantry I shoot more and far better than I did while serving. Only downside is it costs quite a bit more.

And with most people in the military being in support positions how is it that I have met more SEALS and SF since I have been out than when I was stationed at FT Bragg?
