I've not read all this one but I'll throw in my opinion(s) red dot / green dot sights or holographic and optics do have a place. I've had some failures of some. I've tried several on handguns, on some I noticed slower times. End up "fishing" for the dot grip angles can be a issue. On some battery failures especially with shake awake on EDC (popular brand) PTA changing battery out and cost vs needs and might not like getting submerged in water. I know one of my G-19's has taken a few deeper baths. I've got probably a dozen Red / green dot sights, few Aimpoints, EOTech, ACOG, and on.
So on rifle, shotguns I'm with them. Handgun sometimes, EDC not likely.
Damn I need a PAQ-15 /18 ect still and I'll keep a few ducks and pass some of them on. Especially since a few of them my Gladiator received was from a young kid with mother in a Grand Cherokee and one in some other vehicle.

I use them on my Leverguns, Aimpoint ACRO 2.5 dot. I kill about 50 hogs per week with it, fast fast.
