I've been routinely able to put 18+ gal in my tank without the the Fuel light coming on. Today I got 18.01 gal in with gauge showing 1/8 tank.

I'm at 18 gallons with the fuel light on, but I try to never let it get to that point because you DON'T want to run one of these $10,000 fuel systems dry.

Funny this just came up - had my lowest milage left indicator just last week - 15 miles.
Took 17.1 gallons before the auto stop on the pump clicked. Could have gone more but I see a big diesel slick at EVERY station I go to. Didn't want to make one bigger ;_)

When I fill up, the pump will click off at say 14 gallons ( I never let it get below 1/4 tank) then I'll wait a minute and hold it so it just barely spits out fuel and I can get another 3 or 4 gallons in.. I've put 130 miles on before I've seen it come off of full....

If the diesel is like the gas, the tank has a fuel vapor/fuel separator in the top of it. It IS possible to overfill the tank, and get fuel into the separator, which will ruin it. This prevents the tank from venting properly, and makes it a real PITA to fill.
Just be cautious.

Absolutly don't top off a modern gas rig. No vapor canister on the diesel, so I top off all the time.

This would explain why I can't get more than a gallon without it clicking off... thanks for info. I'm on gas, but upgrading to diesel soon
