After reading this entire thread, and lots of hand wringing, I narrowed my choices to JCR and Rock Hard. JCR shipping weight is 110 lb, and RH is 160 lb. I don't plan on extreme wheeling, and my wife would like a step but she doesn't weigh 300 lb either. I didn't see a reason why I should buy something that heavy, but the lighter stuff I found was not engineered like I want, and I don't want the pinch welds exposed with the sliders hanging down a lot. JCR has a sale but the best price is for the unpainted version. So,, I called Rock Hard and talked with Chad for a while. I ended up ordering their angled up sliders, and will struggle to install those heavy bastards, lol.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. At least I am not an idiot that couldn't figure out how to get them to extend lol. The sticker price on them is pretty high for something that really isn't much of a step assist. Are they really that heavy duty to justify the cost? I may replace them with something that extends out a bit farther because my GF is short and will have problems getting in once I get my lift on.
i'm either going with the LOD armor lite, or the ROAM 3rd gen ones that are "SUPPOSEDLY" coming out this year.

Idk about you, but one of my biggest frustrations about all this waiting is the mud flaps oddly enough. I don't want to buy RokBlokz with the punch out if I don't need to because of the rock rails I have. If I punch out the piece, and then my new rails/steps don't require the punch out, then I'll have a big hole there for no reason. I like the RokBlokz, but for 170 bucks, I'd rather only purchase the one pair and be over and done with it.

i hear ya! luckily for me, i don'g have any rails/steps at the moment. So i can buy the non-cutout one then cut it up later.

Same here on the mud flaps, although I bought some off-brand Mopar equivalent ones from Amazon.

I installed the rear ones but am waiting on the fronts since they don't fit with the Rubicon rails. From the looks of the LoD and ROAM steps, they both appear to stop short of the pinch seam up front so I'm pretty sure they will work with the flaps I have.

In anticipation of getting the Rock Hards, I decided to see how bad it would be to remove the body mount bolts, and hopefully not break any of them. The rears are easy, not too tight, and the center ones are a lot tougher, with the factory loctite holding them throughout. However, they are just "tight" not oh-no, I-think-the-bolts-will-break tight. I used a cheater bar on my long flex head 1/2 inch drive ratchet with 18 mm socket, and kept turning until they came out, to the plastic retainers that keep them from falling on the ground. A quick pry and they come right out. Now the front two (left and right sides), they were very tight all the way out, and the loctite on them was pink not blue. I was careful and sense of feel said they were coming out, not twisting the bolts to the point of breaking them. After removal, one at a time, I wire brushed the threads to clean off some of the loctite, sprayed with carb cleaner, greased the threads with moly chassis grease, and reinstalled very moderately tight since they would have to come out again later this week.,

those could do the trick for a lot of people but because I have a rubi, it says not compatable

So I pulled the trigger on a set from Shrockworks. I've heard of to many JL suffering damage after wheeling with body mounted steps that I wanted to avoid any that do.
So my needs:
Up high and tight for wheeling (I didn't want a low hanging step)
Frame mounted only. They bolt directly to the frame using 1/4” thick, gusseted mounting plates that tie into both the side and bottom of the frame.
Something beefy that can take a hit
Somewhat of a step
Look good

The frame's strength comes from its boxed sectional area. The material is not real thick. If mounting steps/rails to the frame, I would want to saddle the frame to use its mode of strength, not merely drill holes and mount to it and hope it won't buckle under a load. That consideration is why I went with Rock Hard that uses the body mounts and body attachment points.

I think those are the best ones I’ve seen yet. Real materials and frame mount. Price is pretty high after shipping but you will never worry about quality as those are as strong as you can make them.

I still want to see the mounting but shrockworks has been around building quality products forever.

Yeah man.... the shipping killed me. I wish I lived close enough to pick them up. I've seen their sliders on other brands of vehicles and walked away impressed. I called them on shipping times and at first he said 12-14 weeks but when he realized it was for a Gladiator he said they have a priority on any Gladiator sliders. So I would be looking at 2 weeks. Fingers are crossed. I'll post some pics of the mounting points when they get here.

Just for comparison, Rock Hard worked a deal on shipping and I received the rails 6 days after ordering them. Their packaging was excellent and the pallet was the length of the box, so it was easy to put in my Gladiator's bed.

Just spoke to ROAM. They’re not working on the JT steps at this point. They’re focusing on about 4 other projects first and once those are done they’ll probably start back up with the rails. His guess was at least 6 weeks away, so we’re talking 2 months before they even start trying again, so we won’t be seeing those any time before September at the very earliest is my guess.

This is Odd, because they told me they were in the final testing stage of the JT Steps a few weeks ago. Maybe they discovered an issue with them and put it on the back burner? This stinks. Maybe LOD will launch their line sooner?
