Rock Rails Thread

Well after reading this whole thread I was about to order the RockHard 4x4 ones, but I know they would be complete overkill as I moreso want a step that can provide a little protection. Not Protection that can provide a little step.

Then I came across the Body Armor Rock Crawler Side Steps which seem to fit the bill pretty well. Looking at the installation instructions & the weight they seem like they are basically the mopar sliders with a step on em.

Anyone have any experience with these on past jeeps.

I think I am going with the Rock Hard ones as well. Just wondering how much lower a step you would get with Angle Down vs Angel Up on these? Both should have the same step functionality, it's just a matter of what height its at, correct?

I also am looking at the Rock Hard rear bumper to pair with them. I like that they have the access step in the corners to get into the bed but want to make sure that is actually a usable step.

They look good, but the price point and lack of real photos scare me a bit. No info on mount (#s) and strength. Manufacture website doesn’t specify what material and tube thickness. Keep us posted if you get them and what happens when you drop the truck on a rock

I already ordered them, but who knows when they will ship. It looks like this is a JT variant of an existing product. Pics can be found with them on older models. Based on shipping weight they are probably about 50lbs per side so I expect them to be fairly beefy. But definitely not rock hard or ace beefy.

Edit: Actually they shipped... Says Tuesday I will get them. Will report back with pictures & any thickness measurements I can gauge.

I do like these - it's a simple, tough looking design.. but aren't these mounted to both the pinch seems and the frame. Do you have to drill any new holes?

They do mount to both and I don’t know if drilling was required. I had a crash and these came in while my truck was at the shop. They installed them for me. I believe they are not supposed to require drilling

Are they installed yet? How about now? Now? If you were in Denver, I'd probably offer to help! Are they angled up or down? The angled up version look like a one piece equivalent of adding the Ace Sliders to stock Rubi Rails. I had that combo on my 2014 Wrangler and liked it allot.

This morning I started installing them but got freaked out so I quit. lol....

As I was removing the front passenger side body mount bolt (very slowly using a breaker bar) I kept hearing a cracking noise. Turn after turn I kept hearing the cracking, and it wasn't smooth at all.

I'm guessing the cracking was from the threadlocker, but that was enough to freak me out. It reminded me of the old postings I've read on here of people breaking their body mount bolts. I don't have the tools, nor the time to fix a broken body mount bolt so I said screw it...

I called a local dealership near me and they offered to install them for $115 so that's what I'm going to do. They're getting installed tomorrow morning.

I'd of done the same. That fear was actually on my mind when I decided to order the ones I did that dont use the body mounts.

I encountered the same noises when installing the ACE Sliders on my JK, but being ignorant of the potential problem at the time just went ahead with the installation (in the parking lot at my apartment, my current house was being built at the time). Luckily nothing broke. I wonder how many actually do? Is it a frequent occurrence or the rare weak factory bolt at fault? Anyway, smart move to let licensed mechanics take care of it. Pics please!

If I end up getting these, I'll face the same decision. Self install (and immediate satisfaction/ disappointment), or shop install and higher cost? Just need to ask myself one question.....

New Gladiator Rubicon (Factory Rock rails) with 2 inch lift. Wife is 5'2" and can't get in and out easily.

I really need some form of step, but don't want to replace the factory rock rails (last resort?).
Can anyone point me toward a reasonable option here?

Negative they dont. L ook at the pictures of them installed & watch the install video. They attach to the body mounts & go out past the factory sliders.
