My two cents...

Long story..

My guess. Not facts... but...

The 392 JL had full time 4wd ONLY because that 392 puts out serious HP and if Jeep kept them 2wd / 4wd selectable, people would blow out the rear 44 or driveshaft. Keeping it always in 4wd would share the power front and back. The 392 is a monster.

My JT Mojave, 2021 model, has the select trac... 2wd, 4 Auto, 4 Hi, N, 4Lo. It works on a clutch system when in 4 Auto. Like the 392 JL. But my Mojave with 3.6 puts out around 300HP.... the 392 is close to 500HP!

The 392 JL's burned up the 4 Auto clutch. Because of the power and because it was ALWAYS in mandated 4 wd auto.

I have used my 4 Auto function in my JT for a few years in winters without issue.

So, is it a bad system for Gladiators? No, within HP and torque

The 392 was something I talked about for years. I have one in my wife's Challenger. My concern was axles and driveline. I said, they will never do it because the 44 axle can't handle it. I was wrong, they did it, ɓut with mandatory 4wd. They kinda cheated. Lol
We used the tazer in our 392 to lock it in 2WD to help prevent the clutch pack from burning up but we still had issues with our 4wd system. Randomly the Service 4WD system light would come on and when it did the power steering would also go out with it. We would have to pull over and turn it off again and then back again and 90% of the time that fixed it for awhile. The part to fix the issue was on a national backorder. We eventually traded it in on another vehicle but we had that issue and an issue with the Uconnect continuously going blank which the dealership could never reproduce. After a year of having those issue and then moving further away from work it just wasn't worth the cost to keep it.

@ShadowsPapa did you or anyone else ever get to the bottom of this? I’m replacing my bought-back 4XE with a JT and I’m interested in an X for the AWD option. There are some VERY juicy deals on 25’s right now…

From what the dealer says, and experience with pictures of dozens of JT interiors, the X does indeed come with the full time t-case. And having just gone through a similar process researching JLUs for my wife - seems that the Rubicon X is the only way to get one in a JLU as well

I agree, anyone looking for a JT now should seriously consider the 2025s on the lot as they are giving great discounts on them. I don't see a lot of difference between the 25 and 26 model year other than the door removal process, but you can take care of that yourself later if it's important.

It looks like I can pick up a JTRX in the 45K ballpark, which seems crazy…
Wow, about 8K under my 25 JTMX with all of the discounts and incentives applied. That would be hard to pass up if it's equipped as you like - but an X has almost everything already.
