My understanding is any trim
how are they able to offer the price that low? Is it because the dealer actually pays 12% under invoice for the vehicle?

When these dealers say a percent off the jt, would that be any trim? Or just the rubicon?. Any idea how those dealers do the 5-8% off invoice currently work that with the jl trims?
My discussions with Kent was any trim via orders (not from his allocated stock). He does require Financing through his preferred bank, but can payoff or refinance anytime after 3(or 4?) months.

My understanding is that the dealership pays less than invoice, gets a “bonus” from certain lenders for using them for financing, and can get additional incentives from Jeep as being a top seller. So it’s kinda like Costco for some dealerships who do the math and would rather sell high volume and lower profits.

I am watching this discussion closely...

My question is how do you know what invoice is ?

Why don't people just quote their discount off of retail.....

You can do either way. When you get a quote you get MSRP and invoice. So you can say I got 16% off MSRP. It’s pretty clear when you order. I will happily post my build and pricing when FCA releases the pricing so people have a chance to look at it for themselves

I am sure someone will get the invoice prices and post them here. Otherwise Car Gurus and Edmonds will post them on their websites.

I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks to find out...

Question for anyone who has purchased a Jeep in ID and driven it home. Are there any ID state fees/taxes added to the sale?

Usually use/sales tax is handled when it's registered in the state you live in. We lived in San Diego but bought a second house in OR, and I now split my time between OR and CA. Was thinking of buying it in OR, but could go over to Boise then drive back to OR to register it. Starting in 2018 OR is no longer tax free for new vehicles but still pretty close (0.5% "vehicle privilege" tax), which is still way cheaper than CA (~8%).

Don't you need to claim all of your out of state purchases and then pay your state tax when you file your taxes? I know nobody did that before for purchases on amazon and stuff, but I bet the state would be unhappy to learn you didn't pay $4,000 in state sales tax.

Legally it comes down to which state I reside in the most (though it looks like there are exceptions in both OR and CA law). Looks like I could justify either state for registration starting this year.

Guess it comes down to which state I actually file taxes in for 2019. OR has no sales tax (just the new "vehicle privilege" tax which I think would be paid when vehicle is registered in OR, just like the CA use tax would be paid when the vehicle is registered there). A neighbor of mine who has a 2nd home in OR (also splitting time between OR and CA), bought a truck in OR last summer and registered it there, and now is starting to move all of his vehicles to the OR address. That got me thinking about this purchase in OR rather than CA. ID is a short day trip away, so if the pricing is better there would make sense.

Biggest concern with OR plates while in CA is if local LE/CHP see someone regularly driving the same route with out of state plates, they could ding them with a fix-it ticket to change the registration (especially if I haven't switched my DL over). A CA LE friend said if I brought in proof I own the OR house & pay utility bills there, the judge would throw it out.

My bad, i thought you were buying in a state you can't say you live in.

Is everyone in the "greater idaho area" set on going there to get one? I have emailed local dealers but I don't know if I want to replicate that effort with a bunch of more dealers in the Boise area...I guess what I'm saying is, can I wait to find out the price before putting in the work, or do I have to start doing that now?
I'm looking at getting mine at Larry H Miller Dodge of Boise for mine even though I live in Twin Falls, Idaho. There is a Jeep dealer here, as well as mountain home which I am considering but LHMiller is familiar, I have had plenty of family get cars there and I know they have good customer service and good deals.

I did an out-of-state purchase too. Stayed off the interstate and took back roads home for a few hours. With stick shift, occasionally gave it half or later full throttle but only at medium RPM. Harder to do with automatic. Varied speeds, little towns, stop signs and such. Saw some interesting parts of the country. Found differing routing opinions between my GPS and my wife's built-in GPS as she was following me. After a few hundred miles finally got onto the interstate and still varied speeds. The engine was unhappy with low RPMs until around 500 miles when it became fine.

So take the back roads for half a day and call it good. Hit the interstate only after a few hours on the road.

We live in Los Angeles, and we purchased two vehicles from Kent in Nampa, Idaho (Peterson)in the last 10 months. A 2022 wrangler for my wife and a 2023 Gladiator for me a few months ago. About 850 miles, about a 16 Hour drive with one overnighter and common sense driving………… we have also purchased two vehicles from a Ford dealer in Iowa about 1650 miles away in the last year. We are picking up another Ford from the dealer in Iowa in approximately two months, which will make three vehicles from Iowa and once again just common sense driving……………… a nicely equipped Rubicon will be about 6500 below sticker or more.
