Rough Country Vertex Shocks?

Hey everyone. Did some searching but could not find too much. Thankfully, due to my employment, I am able to get a decent discount off of the rough country vertex shock system. (nothing crazy, but a decent amount) That puts it at a price point that would justify it over the Falcons/Fox/Etc... Does anyone have experience with them? I have a frakenlift right now that I pieced together based on my needs and what every manufacturer provided. Clayton offroad 3.5 inch springs, Rock Krawler 4 link in the rear, Rusty's control arms, synergy steering, and currently, bilstein shocks. Just the standard run of the mill non reservoir shock. I got these because they were an excellent price and would hold me over after I swallowed the price tag of the rest of my suspension system. I love the shocks but I want something a tad bit softer and something that can handle higher speed offroading a little better. I'm not looking to bomb the dunes in the desert, but they get a little warm and tired after some of the washboard/fire roads down here. Especially after the bed rack and RTT. Any recommendations? I am normally the kind of guy to stay away from RC, but some of their recent products are not half bad... and I have heard their customer service is top notch. If not RC, what other shocks are y'all running? I am trying to stay away from Fox as my buddy has them on his very similar build and I am not a fan of their valving. Thanks!

My .02 it’s your ride, do what you want with the shocks.

IMO, I will never buy RC ever again even if they are the last ones around… like Taco Bell in the future… now that said.
I have ridden in a few vehicles with said higher end shocks and I currently use the falcon 3.3’s (2.25 body) which I love for their capacity to allow me to soften/stiffen them up.

I have ridden on the fox 2.5’s and 3.0 shocks… and when it gets time to replace mine I will look into them. They both have a dsc system (adjustable) that allows them to not only adjust the low speed valving but also the high speed valving.

Also have been on kings with resi’s and adjusters. They are everything people say they are but are only a single style adjustment just like the falcons.

All that said, I will always recommend resi shocks with adjustable control. Regular style or even coilovers.

Again, IMO… but the ones you want and what you can afford.

yep… workmanship wasn’t great. I had control arms from them and I was replacing joints between 3-6 months on average with just driving a gravel road.

I also sold the “RC” while working for 4 w p (glad I left) …definitely not happy with what I saw… many other brands with better quality… IMO.

Thanks everyone for good information! Especially on Taco Bell Decided on Falcon Piggybacks for now. We’ll see if I change my mind while waiting on their lead time. LOL.

I have the Vertex Shocks on my JKS 3" lift. I like the shocks, so far no complaints. While not a compliant, the rear shocks sort of swivel around a bit and clack from time to time, which if I was designing, I wouldn't implement. I upgraded from Fox 2.0s when they kept bottoming out on fairly tame road divets. However, since installing these shocks I found that I believe I might have tightened by track bar on the lift and not under weight. Since I loosened and re-tightened it, I've had a lot more compliant ride in the front.

Again, while I'm perfectly happy with these shocks, I'm less happy with the JKS springs. I'm not a big fan of progressive rate springs, as I can't quite get the ride where I want. I think I'd prefer a traditional single or dual rate spring so I can get the ride tuned to where I want it. The first bit of travel seems plush, but then WHAM as it hits the firmer rates. If I soften the shocks too much, the first bit of travel (Ride Height) doesn't work as intended and is too floaty.

Overall, I can't recommend paying their MSRP for these shocks-- they're priced too high. But I paid quite less and I'm happy with the value for what I've paid.
