I bought a gladiator sport in June. This was my first experience with a jeep. I tow a small tear drop trailer that weighs 2500 lbs fully loaded. I was impressed by how well it towed and driving down Forest roads, was nice not to have to dodge pot holes and how smooth it was going over rumble board roads. I have decided to upgrade to a Mohave or Rubicon. My question is, the Mohave is a high speed desert runner but is driving 35 mph down forest road considerd high speed desert running, and will the Rubicon do just as good at those speeds? I like the Rubicon because it tows more and although I don't do rock crawling, I do get into some bad situations where I may need that front locker. I guess my question is will the Rubicon give me a decent ride on rocky roads as the Mohave at the speeds I drive?

Why not upgrade the components of the sport?

You will lose your ass trading in that soon and unless there is something on the others you need that you can't get otherwise, I second what @Gvsukids said and just upgrade what you have. For the price difference + what you'll lose, you'd have an extremely well built truck that will put either of those to shame.

Also you rarely get into situations that require a front locker outside rock crawling that can't be fixed with some other traction device. The BLD in these trucks is generally good enough for anything that isn't being completely crossed up or trying to climb a ledge.

Either a Rubicon or a Mojave would be extreme overkill for fire roads at 35mph. But you should be able to get to the capability level with a sport for far less then the cost of trading in for a Mojave or a Rubicon.

It would be considerably cheaper to just add the features you want to your Sport. Plus you get exactly what you want and nothing you don't.

You sound like you would never need a front locker. I can just tell.

I chose the Mojave because I spend more time on road than off. Yes it’s a desert runner but I wanted the upgraded shocks more than a front locker and sway bar disconnects. If I need a front locker at some point I will have one installed.

I think you'll have plenty offroad capability from either trim. If I spent the money on a Mojave I wouldn't plan on touching the suspension. So if you are going to run stock I'd say Mojave has plenty off road goodies for you. If you want a built up crawler the nod goes to the Rubi. Sounds like you'd be ok upgrading the sport and installing a winch for added piece of mind but no matter what you'll have a cool truck.

Rubicon. Shocks are a disposable item and a locker and sway disconnect aren't. Throw some decent 35's and upgrade the shocks on the rubicon and it will be a significantly better rig for what you want... Except the hood. The mojave hood is pretty sweet looking imo.

You'll probably never need the locker but there's been times where you might use it when its muddy and your trying to get your trailer into places without carrying a lot of speed.

As said before, between the 2, I’d go Rubicon, have you test driven them? What the Mojave offers is great stock but I knew going in I’d want to lift and mod just as I’ve done my JKR and our JKU. The Rubi has good all around gearing and a decent tow rating. I added a Taser so now have sway bar disco and rear axle lock in 2WD. I DO Love the Mojave hood though. I kept going back to it! Hoods are cheap (sort of) additions though (put an aftermarket on the JKU).
