Lots to unpack here...

What kind of annual mileage are you going to be driving? I think that is the first issue that you have to work around. Balance that with your actual personal mileage outside of work...

Really surprised they are not leasing -- most companies do that with corporate cars. Are you stuck with the same vehicle for what period of time?

The stipend plus gas card isn't a bad way to go -- particularly if your company car policy disallows things like bike racks, explicit use for company business, disallowing your spouse/son/daughter driving, etc. You may be able to negotiate this.

You are not likely going to find a JTR at that price point. Bare bones list is $43K.

Good luck.
40-50k a year. I live in the boonies so if I need to do something it’s usually while I’m in town for work. Otherwise I’m with the wife and kids in her SUV.

They aren’t leasing because the high mileage. The plan is to keep it 2 years, keep the mileage less than 100k and sell it.

I have a bike rack but it’s a trailer hitch so that isn’t an issue. My wife has driven my current gladiator like once. It’s because it was blocking her care in the garage and she just needed to run to her moms a mile down the road for a few minutes. Kids are young... if they were older would likely not let them drive the company vehicle anyway...

With the discount people are getting off of MSRP, I should be able to be close to the 45k range for a JTR.... I just like the way they are base and wouldn’t have to change much. Wouldn’t be happy w sport s stock.... at all. I was almost embarrassed to drive mine around until I got the stock tire/wheel combo switched out! Lol

Double-check, if you can, whether any family/friends can ride in the company-owned vehicle; I know, at my company, no family/friends are allowed any time (you may also need to log personal miles) within the company-owned vehicles. Those occupants are not insured for medical injuries or damages while operating/riding in the company's vehicle. This policy includes any company capital/operating leases...

If you use your personal vehicle, then you may need to change your own insurance policy to a commercial coverage, as well...

Just my $.02's worth...

I didn’t see if you posted whether or not it’s a base Sport or Sport S.

Keep your current Gladiator. Your going to loose out. If you get a JTU you said it's sold in 2 years.
Get a company car and hang on to your Jeep. That's if you still love it and see keeping it for a long time.
I always try to keep work sperated from personal for many reasons I won't get into.

Good luck.

I think you're a little low then. If you're not in a hurry and especially since your company is buying you a new one, put $41k on yours and wait until you get your number. Allow someone talk you down $1k and let them feel like they're getting the better end of the deal. You both walk away happy.

I drive almost not at all for work related purposes, but I still get mileage and $500/mo vehicle allowance. You were getting robbed!

I had a company in the past pay me a monthly Stipend for me to use my own vehicle of 300 per month, and a fuel card for all gas and maintenance. Just an idea, ask them if they offer it.

Yeah, I probably should have negotiated for more. At the time it seemed like a great deal.

Damn -- that is a lot of miles.

I use to do about 18-20K a year in my personal vehicles -- which I never minded because I was being paid mileage. Cannot imagine doing that kind of driving, let alone putting that kind of mileage on my vehicle.

Have them buy your Gladiator and give it back to you as your company truck.

Definitely do not keep an extra personal vehicle you don't need. A friend with a company truck did that for years, and the amount of cash he wasted was huge. If the company lets you use it for everything you want as far as personal use, the cost savings are huge compared to owning a vehicle.

Not a Tax attorney but in a similar situation. With the 2017 Federal Tax Cut law also known as the "TCJA", IRS rules changes a lot concerning company provided vehicles and "personal use" of said vehicles.

The employer is suppose to determine how much "personal use" of a company provided vehicle an employee may use and show that as additional taxable income to the employee.

In the OP's case, it does not behoove of him to have the company buy his truck and then give it back to him with the intent he now has a weekend play toy also.

I have a company car but it’s for business and commuting only so I need a car at home for nights and weekends. It’s nice to keep low mileage on my gladiator. I’m doing just under 400 miles a month on my gladiator now without commuting.

The question I have is: are you able to have the gladiator and not do mods to it as you will give it back In 2 years? Or can you buy it back after the two years with the high mileage ?

So I’ve decided I’m going to keep it and collect the $.56 per mile driving.

Im going to be averaging around 3000 a month, which will be a tax free $1680.

My payment is around $600, insurance $60, monthly gas will be around $500 ($1160 total). So I’ll have about $520 extra per month... to pay down my loan, tires and oil changes etc.

I owe about 32k on it. I have about 15k miles on it and have the bumper to bumper 7 year 100k warranty. I’ll likely sell at 100k. The nice part is it it’ll be likely close to be paid off, the question is how much will it be worth w 100k miles and 3.5-4 years old? I’m actually kind of excited to drive the shit out this thing and see how it does!
