This is really promising, hope it really is 7K+ rating. Really good to see they are serious about this being a real truck.

I really think this is a chance for it to be over 7K with the diesel. Check this out:

https://www.jeep.com/en/jeep-capabilities/towing/#GrandCherokee4Tab*

That shows the current GC can tow 7,200 lbs (in 4x4 trim with the 3.0L). Now mix in the fact the the motor will be updated on the JT and they are using a rear axel set up similar to the Ram 1500 and I think its automatic it will be at 7,200 or higher.

More pics of JT Gladiator Pickup tow testing, towing a twin-axle trailer, which is "probably rated around 7,000 pounds based on comparable trailers"

Anyone else notice the JT seems to missing the oh shit handles that have been spied on the JL/JLU....cant wait for the diesel. The towing on the ram 1500 with the 3.0 eco diesel is approx 9200lbs By the way love the rock rails on the JT.

The Ram 1500 ecodiesel is rated at 9200lbs. With the 3rd generation ecodiesel going into JT, its gonna be a true pickup especially with upgraded suspension and rear axle 12 bolt dana= to a dana 60.

Had no idea the Ram 1500 diesel could tow that much. JT Gladiator Diesel could be a beast!

Yeah it's an odd situatioon with the Ram 1500 vs the Grand Cherokee.

The Grand Cherokee's highest tow rating is with the EcoDiesel, the Ram 1500's higher payload and towing rating is with the 5.7 Hemi (1,700+ 10,000+) rather than the EcoDiesel, and while the Pentastar gets get the highest payload (1,800+) due to the lighter weight of the engine it trades off power/weight for towing as expected, though still respectable at over 7,400 in 4x4 / 7,600 in 4x2 which beats the GC Ecodiesel.

Showing that there is a fair amount of wiggle room for all the engines, if they are attached to the right chassis and suspension in front of it.

To keep up with all the other mid size pickups ('ute' ) in Australia it would need to have a towing capacity of 7700lb or 3500kg. That would be awesome.

Why are utes so popular in Australia? Don't they have much lower ground clearance than pickups? Kind of doesn't make sense to me.

I'm hoping for 5,000 lbs towing capacity for the new JLU and 7,500 lbs for the JLT.

In Australia pickups are considered 'utes' so there are 4x2 low to the ground utes and 4x4 raised crew cabs also called utes.

Okay. Our low to the ground El Camino type vehicles died out a few decades ago. But tall pickups are extremely popular. Where I live they are probably more common than cars.

Interesting. Over here even "pickup" is being used less and less. People mostly just say "truck" now for pickups.

I actually saw an old El Camino on the drive into work last week. I honestly don't know what people were thinking back in the 70s.
