I scratched the top of the rear roof panel.

Looking for recommendations or experiences with scratches like these. Not deep. It’s smooth to the touch.

So far I’ve heard about Hard Top Touch Up Paint (68623587AA) and Sharpie. However, I’m afraid of ending up with a different shade in that section of the roof, and I wasn’t a fan of the Sharpie.

Should I have the dealer or a body shop look at it?
Spray paint the whole panel in summer?
Alternative hard top options?
It’s a Jeep, don’t worry about it?

Don’t use a sharpie it will stand out, I know it’s what I started with. Use the Mopar hard top touch up it was a perfect match

Yep. Tried the Sharpie and proceeded to wipe it off with alcohol.

Did you use 68623587AA?
Any additional products?

I am doing my whole hard top in spring. It looks great and you wont scratch it again.

If it s on the top I wouldn’t bother with it. for 1, it wont rust. 2, you can’t see it. 3. Its most likely gonna get scratched again if you take them off frequently.

Nothing is going to match 100% but a total sand down and refinish. Like others mentioned, it on the top, would not worry about it.

That being said, I use the RUST-OLEUM truck bed liner spray can stuff with a acid or model painters brush on my hard tops and matches pretty well.

I ordered from Quadratec it was labeled for wrangler hard top, but they're all the same. I had to use it after they scratched my hard top while replacing the rear window.

When I had some rock chips in my Freedom tops, the body shop just replaced the whole panel. They said the only way to fix it properly was to refinish the entire panel, and it cost less to replace than to repair.
I simply used a black permanent marker (Markal Dura-Ink) and touched it up. You've got to look closely to see the touch up.

I've used the Mopar hardtop touch-up spray with good results. It will blend right in. It doesn't have texture, you have to first apply something like a spray undercoat to put the texture back. That gets tricky because the amount they have varies. You just have to get a few different ones and use the one that matches the best.

I appreciate the feedback.

Does anybody have pictures of the Mopar touch up paint?
I’m not looking for it to be perfect, but at least an idea of how it turns out.

I’m going to leave it alone for now, but am leaning towards the touch up in the near future, followed by repainting or lining the top if I’m not happy with the results of the spray.

Long time boat owner‘s perspective. Correct the exposed plastic won’t rust. However the white plastic could very likely degrade from UV & moisture exposure. Regardless of the aesthetic, I would (and as a hardtop owner will, if need be) seal any scratches that expose the white base plastic with the top paint touch up. This will seal the crack and prevent any moisture /UV damage. And it will be easier for a body shop to correct sloppy touch up painting than a UV deteriorated soft spot.
