Going to trade in my beloved, but boring Taco for either a Rubicon or Mojave. Still reading but love them both. Anyway, trying to figure out the best purchasing option for me. If I look at the local inventory, there are a few hits that match what I'm looking for but with a couple extra goodies that's not a big deal.
  1. Order or stock? Not in a hurry and the dealership in TN that everyone seems to use would be fun! Have babies in college close so make a week of picking her up.
  2. Discount program(s)? My father in law retired from Chrysler and my wife has about 6 years of service too. We got a Dart a while back and I remember the employee discount. Sounds like we can use that now? My company is also listed on the affiliate sheet. Not sure which one I can leverage for the best price, or both? Can I use that along with one of the under invoice memberships?

Order one the way you want it. Use your affiliate program from work so you don't need to spend the money on Tread Lightly. I used my last EP number for my JTR in 2019 before some of the dealers started the big discounts. The TN dealer discount with financing and affiliate pricing would most likely beat the EP price. You could email them and have them quote it both ways to see what would be better for you. If EP does help the price then check with the family and see if they can still get you a EP number.

Order for sure, they usually don't have deals anyways on the trims you want, and most on the lot don't have deals anyways. You will get exactly what you want. With options prices on these things can vary by close to 20k and some you may want are expensive or costly to add after the fact.

Congrats on the decision. Get ready for people asking about your Gladiator. It's the most fun vehicle I've ever owned. I agree with the others in that order the spec you want and use your existing discounts. Inventory is terribly skewed (at least here on the West Coast) because of the chip/pandemic, so ordering your desired JT is definitely the way to go. :like:

So, dumb question about ordering one. How do they handle trades in that situation? If I order one, does the negotiation for the trade value start then or when I actually get there? Seems like I'll be going out on a limb a bit with that route unless I order local.

Your trade is your trade there is only so much money on the back end if your taco is worth a grand they aren't going to over pay for it they may take some off the list but they will only have so much wrapped in a trade look at Nada that's what most dealers use Kelley is more of a west coast guide

When you actually get there since it could be 2 months and a lot can happen in the used car market and to the car itself between now and then. I'd actually recommend just selling to vroom or car max or carvana yourself, get more for it than you will in trade and they come and pick it up and mail you a check.

And mojave vs rubicon is really easy. Are you going to lift it more than 2 inches or do you want the diesel? If yes go rubicon because a mojave with out its trick shocks isnt special anymore and it cant be had with the diesel. Front locker can be added fairly cost effectively to a mojave if you really need one and unless you really rock crawl you wont miss the 4:1 transfer case.

Is the expectation, at least with the dealer in TN, that you secure your order with some money down? I know that's a mixed bag with Toyota dealers and up to them. Didn't know if Jeep was the same.

Typically it's $1,000 down to place your order. They'll deal with your trade the day you take delivery I would imagine as you will continue to put miles on, market fluctuation, etc.

Order from Gupton. But a valuable trade is the situation where you might do something different. Make sure to price on Carvana + Vroom, sometimes their offers are REALLY good.

EDIT: Some states will only charge you net purchase price sales tax, in those cases it probably makes sense to trade unless you're selling private. If not, selling to Carvana or the like is probably financially the better option and removes some big uncertainty.
