2024 Gladiator 2 inch mopar lift and 35 inch skinny tires. Building my Jeep for overlanding and may want to tow a small camper. With the weight of gear (RTT bed rack etc) Should I regear for towing a camper? Have the max tow with the 4.10 gears. When I retire I will be living full time out of the camper. Even though I adjusted for tire size, I rarely see 8th gear and going uphill the rpm's get pretty high in 3rd and 4th gear and this is without any camping stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

At a bare minimum yes. Being a jeep guy I’d expect the 35’s to be the max til they wear out and then you put 37’s on it.

I would do 4.88’s at a minimum but prefer 5.13’s if you’re gonna be towing that much. I ran 37’s for a little while and still thought 5.13’s were perfect with no trailer. When o put a trailer behind it I wished I’d had a 6.13 😂😂. The 3.6 is not a torque monster and the deep gears make it useable.

One thing I won't be doing is going up to 37's. Too expensive for me and my Jeep sits at the perfect height for me.

4.56 or 4.88 then. If it were me I’d do 4.88 since you want to tow a lot.

I’ve got 4.56s in my diesel to help with towing on 37s, in a gasser on 35s I’d think 4.56s or 4.88s would be ideal for towing.

I tow a 7000 lb camper with 4.88 and 35’s. Perfect gear for me.

I put 4.88's on prior to towing 4000lb trailer cross country. It was perfect. My theory is if your going to spend the money, go with enough difference that you can notice the improvement. It's also more responsive to drive without the trailer. I didn't buy this truck to go fast but its nice to have some more torque.

What brand gear sets do you all recommend?

4.88s and Dana Spicer. Unless you like to do 80mph a lot. The 4.88s will make it feel like a V8.

I'll be #3 on recommending Dana / Spicer for brand. With 33/10.5r17 on my 2020 with Max-Tow I spend a lot of time in 7th gear. I tow various trailers with the 33's,. My 05 Wrangler Unlimited tow better in many areas. No chance I'd re-gear from 4:10 to 4:56 not enough of a change from the $$$ spent. (IMHO) I re-geared my XJ from 3:55 to 4:56 years ago, same reasoning 4:10/11 not worth it. That actually put speedometer on with the tires change also. So engine and transmission were close to factory design in many ways. I've had "the itch" for 35" tires but think it would really suck towing. I don't have plans on a regear on my JT.

I went from 4.10s on 35s to 4.88s on BFG KO2s 12.50x 37 and my performance went way up and MPG is at 15 combined. I had the gears polished so I had no break in with them. My 4.88s will work even if I would ever go back to 35s.

Elaborate? And would this be amplified for the manuals?

I have a Mohave (410 gears) with the stock 33'' tires the 8speed tranny. I am towing a 20' E Pro Flagstaff trailer weighing 4k loaded and with the truck loaded the rig weighs in just over 10k. I use the rig to go deep into the Arizona mountains and deserts on remote 2 track roads and have no issues the way it is set up. The truck is also a daily driver. The eight speed ZF has a very low 1st gear and gears 7&8 are overdrive. Climbing steep grades are no issue because I can always find a gear that works. Lowering your gears does not give you more power it just means you will be in a higher gear when on any given terrain. If you are rock crawling, big tires and lower gears will be needed but I do not rock crawl except when there is no choice. Super low gearing and tall tires have obvious benefits but costly to do and for me not needed. I would get your trailer and decide what changes to make after towing the rig.
