Well, I got that letter today asking to re-up with Sirius for $5 at the end of the year. Anybody get any better deals? I fought with Sirius a while on the old JKU, so not sure I want to even hassle with it. Anybody have suggestions or a good deal to share?

$5 for a year which begins after the one year free trial. When they call after that to renew, I'll tell them to just turn it off because I'd just as soon stream my Pandora music and don't ever listen to the talk programs anyway, and they'll surely give me a similar deal to keep me as a subscriber. I want to be clear that I wouldn't be bluffing - I really don't think it's worth much more than $5 a month if even that. I still listen to my Pandora music more than XM anyway.

Last time I got the renewal call, prior to the JT, she told me that there's so much more I could be listening to like sports, Howard Stern, etc., etc.. I told them I actually prefer to listen to Pandora, and only listen to music anyway. I asked her if they had a music only, stripped down version for cheap - or otherwise she can just turn it off. She told me she does have that stripped down version, but that she would give me the whole thing for less than half the cost of the stripped down version - $5.

Hmmm. Why's that? Could it be that having higher numbers of subscribers to those special programs is worth more to them in advertising than in subscription dollars? I think the short answer is YES. I used to work in broadcasting (long time ago). I believe programs like Howard Stern and the news/talk/sports channels generate a lot of ad money for them, so it's better for them to give that extra programming to me at a loss than to lose me as a subscriber to those channels. It's more about subscriber numbers they can boast to their advertisers. That's how they bring home the bacon.

The content is okay but their renewal process is horrible and they are impossible to deal with, for that reason once the free subscription expires I am done with them.

$5/yr or $5/mon ? Assuming it’s the latter as that’s typically their cheapest non-trial price. I deferred the issue by getting 3 more months for something like $2 total. So I’ll play the subscription song and dance after that. Would be nice to see some sort of new deal come along, their music royalties keep getting more expensive every year.

I thought it was 5 years. Maybe that is just the Premium sound upgrade. Sorry if sound ignorant.

My free one year trial ended in June this year and I just let it go. I just re-subscribed last week for $5/month + a free Echo Dot. I have tons of music on my Apple Music, but I do enjoy listening to the comedy channels, political talk channels, and sports channels, especially on long road trips. Plus, it's nice to have some Christmas music playing around the house using their app. I have a reminder to cancel one year from now set up on my phone already.

Sirius is the one subscription service that is worth me keeping at any price. I hope I see an offer like that, i'm a long time customer with the service in both cars so I don't get those deals as much

I've been a Sirius customer since 2005. Your best option is to ALWAYS let the subscription expire and go without for a month or two. $5/month is a good deal but not a great deal; I am, currently, at $1.99/month in 3 of my vehicles. Granted, it's only for 6 months, but I'll repeat the process when that expires.

$5 a month is a great deal! I have 2 subscriptions and I always have to call a week before automatic renewal and threaten to cancel at least one subscription to get a good deal. And I consider a good deal around $100-$120 yr for each. You never want the automatic renewal price!
