Toyota is so lame all around. I've driven three different Toyotas in the past year or so, and I'm shocked at what crap they are. The electronics are a bad joke. The braking, annoying, and the steering is downright 90s junk. The adaptive cruise on a 2021 TRD... I'm not exaggerating: TURNS OFF at 30MPH. So if it had to slow for traffic, at 30 it goes BEEP BEEP and just stops braking. Good luck!!!
Why is this relevant on a GLADIATOR forum?

Building it into the cost is a smart way to do it. Bury the cost instead of nickel and diming people until they complain in a thread like this.

It's relevant because it's the topic being discussed in this thread.
You shouldn't force people to pay for things they don't need. Choice is good. This discussion is going on right now on the Tesla forums because they stopped including the mobile charge cord. Few people used it. So if you need it pay, don't penalize the people who don't want it.

Nothing Ford does is relevant here, like Tesla is not relevant here. To answer your next question: Same reason.

Seriously? Jeep will come to a full stop if needed.

My son never pays full price for subscription things. It once in a while means he's without his music and sports channels for a couple of days, but he's been paying 5 bucks a month for years.

Seriously, scared the CRAP out of me, because I thought it would be like the Jeep. And I hate that the Jeep cancels after two seconds, but at least it stops. The Tesla is just always on (assuming I didn't cancel manually).

Tesla not relevant (per you), but you're still talking about them.

We found the internet based remote start to be very useful skiing. I could be 300 yards away and start the truck 10 minutes before we got to it. Very nice when its 0 deg out and windy.

I'll keep it if I can pay month to month. (Dec - March). I won't if I have to sign up for a year.

The rest of the year the key fob remote start is fine.

Hearing what Ford is doing is relevant because it tells us what industry norms are.

So Ford sets industry norms?
You just like poking me. Its one data point. The more datapoints we get, the better we can figure out industry norms.

You know what I meant. I'm typing on my phone trying to be brief. ha.

What one manufacturer does. The rest will follow suit in some way. Put a radio in a car. Everyone else puts a radio in their cars. Put A/C in a car. Everyone else puts A/C in their cars. The subscriptions for fobs and everything else. Give it time. Everyone else will start to do it. What Ford does, what Toyota does or anyone else does matter. It's a glimpse into the future.

They will do what they can get away with. BMW used to charge like $12/month for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But at some point someone figured it was costing them sales.

People don't like to feel like they are being nickel and dime'd. But they also don't want to pay for things they won't use.

So I think that people are fine with paying monthly for "extras" like all the telematic stuff. They understand that there is a cellular data piece to it and that should incur a monthly cost.

But they will chafe at being asked to pay monthly for something that is just a function of the car's configuration. Remote locks using the fob being an example. The only connectivity there is in a situation like this is from the manufacturer to the vehicle telling it to NOT work. Eff that.

Just threaten to cancel then you can negotiate. I got the radio for $6 a month and the remote features for $150 for the year as a 1 time deal ?

In Canada the fee includes roadside assistance. Is that not the case in the USA.
