Yeah that sucks but the gladiator is a tough sob. I was coming down the 5 just sout ofsanta clarity where the 405 splits. There is this white Honda Civic parked at a dead stop. No brake lights on and right up against a Hyundai. Neither were moving there’s 300 yards of open freeway in front of them and then a sea of brake lights. Well I hit that pos civic and mashed inhis whole rear end several inches did some very minor damage to my front steel bumper. But here’s the thing. I ampretty sure the Honda hit the Hyundai and tha was why they were stopped but being the guy in the nice jeep they both sued me. The people in the Hyundai one-off them said they broke a tooth but according to my agent and the cops there wasn’t a scratch on the Hyundai the civic. Well that was toast Lessons learned takes longer to stop this truck than t did my jlur and pays to have. Good insurance. And there are a lot of people out there willing to bend the truth to grab more money.

Was the lady insured? I would consult with a lawyer to see what your options are beyond normal repair or total write off if it comes to that. Impaired drivers deserve no mercy.

Wow! That sucks. But glad to hear no one got hurt.

Cars can be fixed, but there’s no justification in this day and age for anyone to be that drunk behind the wheel. I hope that bitch gets what she deserves.

Jesus. I am so sorry. Assholes, man...assholes. No respect for people and their hard earned money. They catch em on tape? I know where every camera is in my building and outside of it. I park my JT in clear view of one and have it up on one of my monitors in the office at all times. I know it's Orwellian....but I got a hit and run in my lot a few years ago.
My neighbors were super helpful. One called the cops, the others made sure the lady was OK and didn't go anywhere. So by the time I got outside, we had parked her car and about 2 minutes later the cops showed up. Filed the reports and everything, pretty painless. I think she was either under the influence of something or was having some sort of episode.

That's a nasty hit. If I read that correctly she was tooling around on the rim before contacting you? Clearly a winner.

You'll know right away if the transmission took a pounding. The axles and park brake should be fine otherwise, the hit in the front probably bounced the suspension fairly well as I don't see any drag marks through the leaf litter etc which says to me you rolled back on the front and plopped down on the curb. Beats the alternative of a parking block and bent up bits.

Sorry it had to happen to you but no one is dead or enjoying apple sauce through a tube from here out so it can't be that bad, right?
Exactly!

I also guess there's frame damage - at least the left frame horn. Look at that left hook. It's looking to be no longer parallel to the other. Those bolt right to the front of the frame.
I double checked before the tow truck took Sully away, I agree, both hooks look displaced. I'll definitely make sure this gets a closed look. Luckily I know the guy who runs a body shop.

She is insured according to my insurance company. I didn't get her info because the cops took her away. I filed with my insurance to get the ball rolling, we'll see what happens.

Impaired driving definitely isn't acceptable, but lets try to keep things civil. I don't know if she was impaired or having some sort of medical episode. The cops let her go pretty quickly, which I don't think they would do if she was drunk/stoned.

I feel a bit bad, her cat was in the car and it took off. She was running around the parking lot last night looking for it. She left her cat carrier, which I moved out of the rain, so I'll probably get a chance to talk to her when I return it.

Good point. Thank you for the clarification regarding her state.

Good idea and good luck.

Wow, what a cool guy. We were in our Gremlin heading home from my then wife's parents place up north. We stayed up there long enough that we decided to take our two cats with us. We were returning home with the two cats sitting in a box on her lap. They had their collars on and leashes but they were sleeping soundly in the box so she wasn't holding onto them. Suddenly BLACK ICE.
I slid off I35 southbound JUST clearing the bridge, across the center and into the side of an oncoming truck and stopped in the grass between northbound and southbound. We got out, unhurt, got a ride to a nearby hotel, I think the patrol gave us the ride, got into the hotel and nearly died of fright as there Sherri was, standing there in the hotel lobby holding that box, the cats sitting inside looking around. YIKES! No one holding them - they simply stayed in the box through the hole ordeal. Box - NO TOP, it was fully open, no top, no flaps, it was just an easy way to carry two cats. They COULD have jumped out onto the busy interstate!!!!!! They'd have been mashed as trucks and cars were going every direction. We were so shook I think we both stood there shivering at the "what could have happened" to them, not so much us.

You never know about such crashes - a fellow in our area was thought to have been drinking a bit when his car left a rail yard overpass and crashed into poles below. Turns out he had a medical situation where he was unable to control the car - at a seriously bad time on his journey home. He had no alcohol or drugs in him. It happens. One of my wife's friends has a son who had similar happen - some sort of weird seizure, no drugs, no drink involved, nasty accident.
Then there's the case of my brother who was driving the 68 Javelin I sold him - he was stopped on Hwy 141 in our home town waiting to make a left turn and was hit solidly from behind by another driver. Speed about 35 mph. The guy had no brakes on his car and wasn't paying attention. And.............. the police gathered information and let the guy drive away - in that car with no brakes. But then where I grew up there was the joke about the cop who shot himself in the foot - and yes, it really happened. So who the heck knows.
We sure don't - not really in this case. Pictures can tell a dozen different stories. Would a drunk woman realize her cat was gone? Would she even had a cat in the car with her? Dunno - but I see several ways this could go so I'll reserve judgement on her. I hope her CAT is ok and if she wasn't drinking or otherwise high - I hope she gets MEDICAL attention. If she was drinking or high - her cat needs to be looked after and she needs to get help fast.

I hit a deer on the interstate Monday, only damage was the license plate holder.

So the deer was undamaged? LOL. Those darned things are like hitting something something pretty solid. Those license plate holders are plastic anyway, if talking stock. You can probably get one free from a forum member.

I was in my office overlooking the parking lot when I heard a loud bang. I was on a work call so I couldn't look out the window. My girlfriend comes running in about 30 seconds later to tell me somebody hit my car.

I don't normally park with my back wheel on the sidewalk or in 2 spaces. So the lady hit me hard enough to push me up and onto the curb (about 2 ft) and about 3 ft into the other spot. Thankfully my car protected my girlfriend's car, otherwise we'd be down 2 rides.

Her car did not do nearly as well. She was missing the tire before she hit me, there are scrape marks through the whole parking lot. I tracked them out onto the main road but didn't find the source, the cops said they'd hunt them down.

The driver was taken away after apparently failing a field sobriety test. I've since seen her running around the parking lot looking for her cat, which escaped shortly after the accident.

I don't know how fast she was going, but apparently she was going at a good clip, especially given that she made a right turn at the end of the parking lot about 20 ft from my car. So clearly held the turn too long and plowed into me.

I'm impressed with how well my Gladiator took the hit, with the bumper and the skid plate taking the brunt of it. Radiator looks fine, as do all the steering and suspension components under there. My only question is, should I be concerned about the transmission and parking pawl? I had the handbrake set pretty tight, so I'm hoping there's no damage in the drive line, I just don't know how to check. Insurance company is currently having "computer problems" so they can't do much for me right now, had to take a paper claim. Thoughts?
If you can afford it, move.

When you rear end someone it is always your fault. Sad that there are so many dishonest cretins around.

I bet it’s fine. I just had that bumper apart yesterday and that center section between the horns, while pretty stout is designed to crumple I think. I could be wrong but I bet there’s minimal bending. Nothing a frame shop could straighten. I could be wrong obviously. My 2016 JK got rear ended and it looked like I had zero damage. Turns out the crossmember was bent. Insurance company insisted on a frame swap. I got rid of that jeep shortly after.
