Just rented this camper for softball tournament. So, I had to slap in a brake controller to go with it. Blows my mind that you order a truck with the tow package, and they nickel and dime you for a brake controller. Installed the REDARC one and couldn’t have been easier.
Trailer is 4300lbs dry, and probably about 5000lbs how we had it. It says 605lbs tongue weight. Pulled better than my 3400lbs boat. WDH makes a huge difference.

It is a Solaire, by Palomino. Model 213X. Looks like they don’t make them anymore. I think this one is either a 2015 or 16. It’s a hybrid, so it has three pop out beds, and the couch is a slide. Pretty roomy considering. We always owned superdutys with a 32’ camper with three full slides. Huge!! And this little camper has done amazing for us given the size.

Towed our tractor last week. I drove to town to see if I could find anyone needing help with removing flood debris and to clear driveways. I wanted to donate my time and fuel to help the community. Turns out most people had cleared their properties and the ones that were still bad had crews working on. I even offered help at one place but they said they were good. Anyway, to the point, the JTR 3.6 is rated at 7,000 lbs., but it felt very anemic towing the tractor. Especially leaving our home where we have a very steep driveway. It made it up but would not pass 3mph on 4H since the rear tires where spinning at first. Once on the hilly road it went mostly on 3rd gear and would downshift to 2nd going up some of the hills we have here near Ruidoso NM. On the flats it did good. If I wanted to keep it at the speed limit of 45 going up, it would be screaming at over 5k RPM on 2nd. Granted I have 35" tires. Towing the camper and other things is different but with the tractor it felt terrible. I'm calculating the total weight at around 6,300 lbs. Trailer, tractor, front end leader and rear blade plus a 5 gallon diesel tank and a fueled tractor.

This is the first time I questioned my choice of truck but then again there is nothing like the Gladiator. So instead of getting rid of it or trading for a JTRD which loses 1000lbs towing capacity, I may just regear to 4.88.

Mine is similar in weight, Jayco x23b 2014 Hybrid (4k lbs dry) but Im newish to towing. I Have an Anderson hitch but a Q? for you and other experienced towers, even with a wdh, does it ever feel like, idk, wavey when you hit bumps in the road or it it smooth/solid, as if just one long vehicle? I made a post about springs or airbags a few weeks ago bc Im not sure if my JT (overland) is just to soft, this is normal, or I am just not set up right. Im in NY and have a lot of uphill climbs where I camp but there are some rough spots and at times it feels like im a little too bouncy and there's this push pull going on. As a side not, i have a curt echo, that on last trip started yelling at me about electrical overload and that wouldn't turn off, even after resetting the brake controller so i also dont think my camper brakes are working, Im going to try a new 7pin connector on RV side, since it does look worn out but otherwise, probably off to a rv shop for repair. Also may look to move away from the echo and hardwire one in. I like seeing the brakes working on the app, (when they do), but hate that I need to have my phone available to activate emergency braking. I bought a tow package, would have been nice if jeep included one like say, they do on Ram.

Yeah it’s floaty. But if the hitch is set properly it will kinda float front and back. Like your driving an old 70’s big boat car!
Especially if you have a rubicon!! 😂
The guy I rented the camper from didn’t set the tension right so I got a little ways away and re-did it one chain link tighter. It was a little more front-back floaty instead of just squatting.

The trailer should be 1 inch lower in the front than back. It should squat the rear some but also show some squat on the front of the JT. When you hit a rolling bump on the freeway the tongue weight will flex the WD bars then the rear will re bound up. Good shocks in the rear will keep this to a minimum . IMO, a trailer over 24ft total is really a bit much for the JT. In gusty winds the tail will wag the dog.

Dunno about that...my trailer's 27' LOA and around 5,100 lbs (with all we want or need) and I haven't had an issue with sway on windy days or, even being passed by tractor trailers. I have the BlueOx system and it works beautifully. I don't even get the 'bouncy bounce'.

The only issue I had (which was minor but, still a little disconcerting) was one time the trailer seemed to have a mind of it's own. It kept wanting to shift in the lane by itself. I figured out why, and it was an easy correction. The issue was that the far right lane of the highway had slight ruts in it from all the truck traffic and the trailer wanted to slide into the ruts instead of following me, how my truck was positioned in the lane, riding on top of the ridges of the ruts where it was a bit smoother. So, I simply adjusted my position in the lane to follow the ruts themselves and the problem disappeared.

We just picked up our camper yesterday and it weighs about 5,200lbs. I have the BlueOx hitch/sway bar and used the Curt Echo brake controller. Truck handled the camper and everything was fretted than expected on a 3 hour road trip. Sport S non-max tow 3.73 auto. Going in shop next week for Dana 5.13 to help with the 37s and when towing.

Can confirm the Rubicon floaty feel. I've already had to replace the stock coils after about 36k miles.

I ditched the Rubi shocks - the front shocks were shot at 40k miles. I went with Bilstein 5100s - much better now

Those Bilsteins are da bomb!!! I put the 5100s on my '08 GC Overland (Hemi) after I put a mild lift on it, and ride and handling were seriously improved.

I have to put new rear shocks on my Wife's '19 GC Ltd. so I went to Kolak (the Jeep Guru from Arizona who sells great stuff for Jeeps) and asked for a recommendation, and bought the Bilstein 4100s he recommended, for hers. I have purchaed items from my Jeeps from him for over 25 years and he's never steered me wrong on a part.

I'm going with Bilsteins for my JT Overland when the factory shocks finally need to go 'meet their maker' (as it were...you know what I mean :CWL: :CWL: :CWL:)
