Sadly this is the real issue... meaning, in every one of our vehicles those parts will corrode eventually due to the different metals being in contact. ...
The video is wrong in stating that the hinges are steel. The doors are aluminum and the hinges are aluminum.

Both aluminum? So the bolts (and nuts inside the door) are the one creating the difference and corrosion?

No. Just because you hear a lot of people calling it galvanic corrosion doesn't mean that it is true.

Not sure what else would be the culprit... sure looks like that from the photos folks have shared.

Could it be due to poor surface preparation?

There have been lots of discussions about this. It comes down to moisture (along with road salt, acid rain, etc.) being trapped between the hinges and body panels or at the edge seams of the body panels, which is causing corrosion. That is why you also see reports of corrosion along the edges of the hood and doors.

I thought this was due to some sort of defect? Maybe something in the prep process?

If it's due to not cleaning enough or cleaning good enough, that should be on us and not Jeep.

I run mine through the wash regularly due to winter road crud here, and of course trail crud in the summer. I even have a monthly unlimited subscription! I don't think it is user error. Our much older car, which gets more miles on it, and is washed less, has no paint issues.

Corrosion is so case specific, it's a futile exercise generalizing about who will have what happen when, pedantic.

Two years and 30,000 miles, I have not had any issue with rust or corrosion, even on the very chipped door hinges. I live on the Olympic Peninsula two miles from the sea, so it's not like I live in the desert. I spray the truck off with particular attention to the undercarriage, axles, and frame, during the winter months. During the warm dry period in the summer, spray the critical components down with a lanolin treatment. Grease your trailer hitch regularly and put dielectric grease on the plug. Twice a year I do a deep wash and wax.

If basic PM program and early diagnosis and treatment of corrosion are followed you shouldn't have an issue. Common sense applies too, I don't drive on the beach unless I have to, and anywhere near salt she gets a good rinse.
