I disagree- the majority of JLU sales are mall crawlers, and I'd bet most Rubicons sold in the past few years never see a gravel driveway let alone a trail or fire road. The industry knows this, hence the rise of the off road ready trims on everything from Hondas to Lexus. Jeep is positioning itself with the Recon to get into that game and good for them. If it winds up with real off road chops, even better.



Same here. I have a hundo down as a place holder for now but I'm not terribly enthused buying a brand new vehicle in its first year from a brand new company. Time will tell.

Good point about other "Off road" trims from other manufacturers. Make it look off roady and people will buy it even if they're driving it to the corner quickie mart.

I don't hate it, but it looks super generic. It'll be interesting when it comes out to see YouTubers take it off road, and end up stranded after it uses up all its battery power in 20 miles.

We have a Tesla Model Y and I can honestly say that it is a very capable SUV. Yes, its not meant for going offroad but it will handle any gravel road, snow or anything else that 99.9% of vehicles encounter due in no small part to its 50/50 weight distribution and very low center of gravity. And being a Tesla it’s actually quite a bit lighter than any other comparable EV. Add to that that it has the highest safety rating possible and it makes a strong argument for putting one in the family fleet. We are taking it on an 800 mile trip from the mid Atlantic to upper New England and have no worries about range or finding super chargers but that’s a Tesla thing.

I would never buy any vehicle the first year out particularly when the manufacturer hasn’t had any experience in the field (Jeep) or if it’s a Chinese product (Scout).

I’ve avoided those floating touch screens so far, and plan to continue avoiding them. When I see vehicles like this, it makes me want to go old school and build up my own daily driver.

The floating screens just don't look right to me. Like they just propped a tablet up on the dash.

BTW, if you do decide to get a Tesla I can give you a referral code that will, depending on when you do it, save you anywhere between $1000 and $2000. That coupled with the $7500 tax credit makes it quite affordable. Rumor is that Trump is looking into eliminating the credit so keep an eye on that.

It looks like a grown-up version of the Renegade, and it's clearly not meant to be comparable to a Wrangler. As if the too-small tires and minimal ground clearance weren't bad enough, the IFS/IRS are a complete deal-breaker. I'll keep buying twin-solid-axle Jeeps, but I won't buy a faux-by-four like this regardless of what brand name it carries.
