Placing this here in the Genral Topics section for more visibility... Purchased a new 21 JTR and the dealer had a Spireon/Kahu unit installed. They would not remove it nor would they remove the cost from the deal. The "service" that is included with the unit is 84 months per the dealer. No monthly charges or anything. However it does require you to download an app and establish an account to access its features.
I have searched the forum and found a few posts that talk about people removing the unit and one comment about one person using the service. I also did a basic google search for service reviews and did not find a lot of information either. A few websites/posts saying it was good and a handful of negative ones as well, so can't really get a good gauge from that, in my opinion. So I wanted to reach out to fellow Gladiator owners and get an idea of how many are using this service and why/why not.
Reading the EULA it talks about data collection and such, like most all EULA's do, very smilier to the agreements that cell phone apps require users to "accept", so my basic questions are:
1) Is anyone using the Spireon/Kahu since it is/was purchased with your vehicle?
2) If using it, have you noticed any reason why you wished you had not activated the service?
3) Any harm to leaving it in your vehicle if you don't activate the service?
After purchase I got an email saying it was now in my name and not the dealership. So I think that means the dealership no longer has access to the vehicle data on the unit.
Just trying to figure out if its worth the "service" and potential vehicle tracking ability or if it would be more beneficial to just remove the unit from the Gladiator and just realize the money paid at time of sale is money wasted and spent with no return. Thanks in advance.
