Gee, look at the companies mentioned as being the most affordable!
Obviously people are not comparing apples to apples, exact policy wording and coverage between companies.

State Farm insures my 2020 Overland, I pay about $100 a month. Haven't had any issues with them, but I also haven't needed to make any claims. Replaced my windshield once but just paid out of pocket for it.

I have used State Farm for 25 years and have never had any problems . I also have made 2 windshield claims with them for my Gladiator without any issues.

California State Farm was covering me at a good rate. Shopped around a couple months ago and progressive had a decent rate but will not Insure my house!? Who knows why these things happen. I’ve had my motorcycle policies denied or dropped over the years too. Just to have the same company start offering a year later. Strange business choices. Computer based. No humans involved so no human can tell you why.

I hate State Farm’s archaic business model. Agent based? Really? That’s really rolling the dice. Married into them. Agents were always flakes. I’m old, I’m not that old that I’m calling an agent to get stuff done.

I have State Farm for the past
year on my Gladiator. I also save 500 bucks a year for being enrolled in their drive safe and save program.
Exactly the same for me in FL

Check out Progressive. I just switched from USAA to them.
I switched from USAA to Progressive last year and saved almost $100/ month on both my vehicles and travel trailer. It was insane how much cheaper they were for better coverage!

Car insurance and emissions killed the muscle car in the 70's.
Perhaps the oil embargo had a bit to do with it to. Hard to sell a gas burner when you have to buy expensive gas, buy only when you can get it.

For my 21 overland and my wife's 18 renegade, we pay about $100 a month for both of them through state farm.

Strange the insurance is more on my 2022 Gladiator Rubicon that my 2022 SS Camaro.

Agree they can't raise rates, but when we tried to shop our insurance because of an increase overall, no one would take us on because we had our windshields fixed to many times over the last 3 years.

USAA is expensive, I left them as well.
It is unfortunate, because from my experience, they have always been very kind and responsive. I don’t think there will be many brand/company loyalists as there once were with all of these increases.

I’ll throw my hat in the ring:

My father has had GEICO since 1965 and I’ve been on it my whole life. They love legacy policies. They’re almost impossible to beat. I have access to USAA and they can’t touch them. Customer service is generally very good. I’ve had multiple vehicles replaced from theft of crashes (not my fault) and generally a lot of claims. They can usually get better replacement parts for things like stereo equipment.

Here’s the important thing about GEICO: it’s actually multiple companies that behave as tiers of risk and they are extremely conservative. A lot of complaints about GEICO are from people in their higher risk pools where the service is worse. Don’t speed, don’t crash, maintain good credit, own a home, don’t be young. Don’t live where theft is high. They’re not as good for higher risk things like motorcycles, or at least they traditionally haven’t been competitive there. If you look good to their actuary tables, it’s excellent insurance. You sound like you tick all their boxes which is why your quote is competitive. I would probably go with GEICO and not look back. No one in my family has had a good experience with State Farm or Allstate for homeowners, although we’ve never had their car insurance.

Now my GEICO policy has gone up considerably in recent years. This is an across the board problem, and not unique to them. I’ve had hard time maintaining home owner’s insurance living in Hampton Roads because of hurricanes. Farm Bureau dropped me because the state regulator told them they had to drop people because they didn’t have enough assets to cover the liabilities. They’ve been mismanaged for years. Then they tried to scam me into using them as their agent of record while being underwritten by some other company and collecting a membership fee for doing essentially nothing. They did this on the auspices of being required by the state to find me new insurance since they dropped me and they lied to me about my options. On a whim I called my GEICO agent switched to them underwritten by Travelers, since I get a multi line discount. They were significantly cheaper than the options Farm Bureau had found me.

As for being denied, it’s hard to say. It could be theft rates, flood/storm damage rates in your area, etc. It could be a mistake. It could be that the credit bureau they pulled from has some negative thing you need to get to the bottom of. Credit bureaus mix up peoples accounts all the time. They need to provide you a reason. If you complain to your state, it’s not the AGs office usually. Most states have an insurance commission or specific regulator. In Virginia we have the State Corporation Commission. They’re powerful and get results. They’ve gone after Verizon Wireless on my behalf, and they don’t even regulate them! ?. Unfortunately, I’ve almost never met another citizen in my state, who even knew of their existence. So people talk about taking legal action when they don’t even realize there’s a regulator they can complain to and it’s free. This is literally what taxpayer money is paying for so people should use these resources. Your state should have something similar. Virginia is fairly consumer unfriendly / pro business yet the SCC is still pretty good. YMMV in other states.

Some Thoughts On the State of Insurance Generally:

A lot of what happens with insurance is driven by something most people have never heard of; the reinsurance market. Reinsurance is insurance for insurance companies and they drive the direction of the consumer insurance market. People can believe what they want about climate change. Your opinion and my opinion really don’t matter. What matters, and I’ve been watching this for the better part of a decade, is that the reinsurance industry has been sounding alarm bells over climate change, sea level rise, frequency, and intensity of storms and fires driven by drought. The important thing is that they’ve been studying climate for decades, they believe this is a problem, they’re acting accordingly and this industry is in the drivers seat.

They’re not going to insure insurance companies that have massive liabilities from disasters. There is immense pressure on the consumer insurance market to reduce this liability. This is why they are pulling back from the east coast. This is why they’re pulling back from fire prone areas out west. People will say “well, just don’t live their” but 40% of the US population lives near the coast. It counts for most of our GDP. Additionally, large swaths of the inland US particularly within the Ohio and Mississippi River watersheds are flood prone, so they’re a liability too. The West is a tender box. The reinsurance industry has been telling consumer insurers in these areas that they’re over extended for years and now they’re starting to twist the screws.

There’s another issue. Insurance companies don’t make money from premiums. They make money by investing those premiums. This means that in addition to being at the mercy of the reinsurance industry, they are also heavily dependent on state of Wall Street. Obviously all publicly traded companies are. First and foremost they have to return value to the shareholders. It’s debatable whether this is a legal requirement. Legally they’re required to report their financial health, not necessarily to make money. But practically, they’re absolutely required to maximize profit. They answer to shareholders and bond holders before they answer to consumers. They get into trouble when returns on their investments are poor or when the stock market fluctuates or there’s a correction. They will then make up for on the backs of their customers since we don’t have many options when we have to have insurance to protect ourselves. Like a number of markets in the US, this isn’t really a functioning free market. It’s more of an heavily coordinated oligopoly in an environment where anticompetitive regulations have been gutted or are poorly enforced.

Lastly, insurance rates are heavily affected by inflation. Hypercore (minus food, oil and housing) inflation is dropping precipitously. It’s back to pre-pandemic levels. However we’re in a unique situation where supply chain constraints have particularly affected things like car parts which drives up repairs and this car insurance in general. I’m concerned that as this eases, insurance companies aren’t going to start relaxing rates as consumers have been forced to except them. This is similar to how the tiny number of consumer product and food suppliers have left prices high as wholesale costs have dropped reaping windfall profits. If market competition doesn’t drive rates back down, this may require regulatory intervention. But I don’t think we’ve completely put inflationary pressures behind us yet anyway.

Overall though, the trend is for the insurance situation to get increasingly worse over the long term. More and more people are getting homeowners insurance through FAIR programs which creates another problem of underinsured or overburdened consumers. Like FAIR programs, Uninsured Motorist programs are not a solution. In coastal NC most insurance in now through the state which doesn’t have the funds to cover the liabilities. like the 2T in student loan debt, it’s another economic time bomb. Unfortunately, I doubt anything will be done until it reaches a crisis point in a few years where almost no one on the East, West or Gulf coasts can access homeowners insurance or afford car insurance premiums. At that point there will probably have to be some kind of national pool created with federal underwriting like FDIC for the insured. That or we’ll see a massive pull back from the coasts which will take 30% of the world economy with it.

Nice Gladiator. I am changing the subject here but did that super tall AM/FM antenna fix the horrifically bad AM/FM reception? I already went with a taller aftermarket antenna and it helped but only a tiny bit.
