After the next presidential election, there will be a massive replacement of union workers with the folks that are just arriving. There are more than 5 million new people here in the US that weren't here 2 years ago. Think of that as you walk the picket lines for the very last time.
We have way more open positions than workers in this country

The UAW continues its headlong march towards irrelevance while Toyota, BMW, and other non-US automakers double down in RTW states.

UAW members and fans should recall that Shawn Fein was elected president of the UAW with around a 6-700 vote margin over his opponent, and that the total vote combined for both only accounted for under a third of its active membership. Elections have consequences, enjoy your "strike pay" and not being able to pay your bills on time.

Also: I'm beginning to think Jeep not announcing the 4xe JT yesterday was strategic- no sense in coming out with what would be a relatively high-demand vehicle requiring moderate retooling of the line when the UAW is expected to strike and shutter the Toledo plant as is.

It cracks me up how the Jeep crowd is all "USA! USA!" Pretending to be patriotic, blue collar, "I'll never buy foreign!", until their fellow blue collar Americans want to improve their living situation. Then it's all "f**k those guys, bunch of bums should be happy with what they get"

I don't know why y'all love the billionaires and corporations so much, they don't care about you at all.

I'm also dismayed at the repeated references to the people who make our Jeeps as "unskilled."

Agreed with all of this ^^.

I used to be a Teamster working for UPS and they couldn't give a shit about me, just wanted my dues but did nothing with my grievances. Of course, if they weren't in there it would be a ten times worse place to work.........talk about a company that's run by bean-counters!

I credit UPS with driving me back to school and pursuing what I really enjoy. Not that there's anything wrong with driving a truck for a living, but that place sucked.

Until the money runs out. Government spending is the only reason the country is still staying afloat.

Well the reality is no one in leadership cares about us, when this is settled the uaw will claim all that they won and the leaders will pass the cost on to us all. The little guy is still making less today than two years ago and both sides point the finger at each other, it makes me laugh because I have come to realize my values are not represented by anyone in DC. Next year we will continue this fight and one side will have their chest out the other will try to impeach them. Just a merry go round!

Because to me, they are a pilitcal organization aligned with a group I don't agree with. BLM is American too and I don't support them. You can call me whatever you want though, we are used to that.

The UAW is determined to destroy American Manufacturing once and for all

How much cutting do you have to do to fit 35s on a Toyota?

from the guy who is putting them out of work. hey man some of us like jeeps cause they like to wheel.

jeep is a European company that is in bed with all the global initiatives that are killing the spirit of what jeepers have historically enjoyed. unions only serve unions.

As close as this post is getting to politics,

I'm gonna say Union value is long behind us. They stopped truly representing members decades ago. Not to mention the tribalism that members encounter when they move from chapter to chapter. Unions don't care when the company will be driven under with their demands. Where's Lee Iacoca when you need him?

Like it or not unions are what made the American middle class possible.
Unions served their purpose way back when companies truly took advantage of the workers with company towns and company stores, child labor, slave wages, horrific working conditions and safety conditions. With child labor and overtime laws, OSHA and most importantly the ability for the average person to decide where they want to work, the unions don't really serve any legit purpose.

Change my mind...

I wonder if the strike does go months, would Jeep just not make anymore 23’s, even though they’re already on order, and just go straight to the 24’s?
Strike is why the 70 F Bodies took so long to come out, and the reason why 71 musclecars are so rare

Strikes combined with government regulations is what killed American automakers and the Midwest in the 70s, and this will be the final nail in the coffin they started building half a century ago

Well no shit, what else are they supposed to do?

the company will be driven under with their demands.
This is what companies say every single time. Is there any truth to this? I'm trying to Google it, but that's proving difficult because all the returns are just news articles of yesterday's strike. First significant find is this research paper from 2003. Haven't read the whole thing, but in the abstract they say "little or no union effect on business dislocation rates."
