Sumosprings/ Timbren for towing

Info If anyone is looking for something like this for towing.

I purchased a sumospring universal kit to try to retro fit it to the factory bump stop location. After measuring I found I had 4” OD and 3” ID on the bracket to play with and around 5.5” of height between the bump stop bracket and the axle. On my research I found that the diameter of the springs were 4” and the height was around 5”. After receiving the sumospring the height was around 5.25” with the metal mounting plate that comes with it.

Due to the height I didn’t think it would work, but I decided to call supersprings (sumospring manufacturer) tech depart. They advised me I’d be Able to cut the spring down with no issue. He also advised if I wanted the spring softer I could take a pyramid type section from the bottom for a softer spring rate. To not effect ride quality when not towing they recommend .5”-1.5” clearance between the sumospring and the axle. And lastly he mentioned they are working on a kit for the gladiator, timbren also. But no production date of course.

Here are the pictures of my trial run. I decided not to cut them down just yet I need to do more measuring with my boat hooked up. And also might go with the blue set which is the lightest spring rate.

How much is your boats tongue weight?

I put sumosprings on my last vehicle a Tacoma. It stopped the bouncing caused by RR tracks.

Timbren and superspring both now have kits for the gladiator!

Are these needed if you have the Max Tow Springs? My Travel Trailer weigh 3600lbs. Coming from a Tacoma...the Tacoma needed the Sumo Springs. I was hoping I wouldn't in the Gladiator.

Good information. I had considered something like that too, and may do it anyway since the Ram and Gladiator rear suspension is so similar.

I tow a 5000lb boat probably 5-600 lb tongue weight and I have some bouncping with larger bumps and some times hits bump stops. Maybe not necessary but will help

Purchased the sumosprings
easiest install ever. Pop the old bump stop off pop the new one on. they feel pretty tight in the bump stop mount.
about 1“ from the axle.
Have not towed yet will report.

I have a max tow. The sumospring improved my tow quality by far, a lot less bounce and more stable. I drive a very bumpy road towing a 5500Lb boat and the difference is perfect for me it’s a mix between stiffer springs and really good shocks. I think the fact that the sumosprinns sit out bound from the spring really improves stability, have to recommend these so far so good!

id assume they would as long as you have bump stop extensions in place

Yeah I saw that. I’m curious which ones I should get though. From what I read the timbrens seem heavier duty while the sumos are a little softer. Not sure how factual that is.

Here is a good video to explain. I had sumos on a Tacoma, they were great.. If you play in the mud you'll notice the timbren is hollow.
