Hey @BestopTeam sorry but I don’t know anything about Kickstarter. But I can tell you right now that I would buy one for certain, almost no doubt about it if it was not overpriced. I suggest that you start a poll right here on this forum to see just how many people would buy them. I would be willing to bet that almost every Sunrider owner would want to buy one. But when you send out a survey I suggest that you also post your projected selling price. I doubt many would vote yes they would buy one if it’s got a high expected selling price(say $400 or more). But if it’s got a reasonable selling price of say $150 to less than $400 then I bet it would get lots of positive votes. You could also post a poll on your own website.

I don’t know a lot about Wranglers but I bet this same Sunrider and roller sunshade would also fit on to a Wrangler, maybe needing minor modification. Makes for another group of buyers for Bestop. Like they say in the Nike commercial, Just do it.

We have had a prototype for some time. That said, the cost to ramp up tooling, production, and all the supply chain to support a relatively small market right now (for JL and JTs compared to how many JKs are in the market) can be a big financial gamble.

I'll float this out in order to get some initial feedback...

What would you think if we did a few products via Kickstarter? For example we figure out what it would take cost-wise to bring a product to market and if we can get it funded we bring it to market earlier. There might be early backer awards like a discount, bonus item, etc. or different award levels. To get the word out we'd have to promote it well but we'd also need a huge word of mouth out in the community, into clubs, friends and family members.

We've been kicking this around as a possible way to accelerate bringing products to market that we've prototyped. No commitment to going this route but if there is a lot of positive interest it will help us move forward the discussion.

Thoughts?

Our experience has been that it's a very different number of people saying that they'll buy one vs. committing to buy (like Kickstarter would if the project got fully funded) so we're considering trying some new approaches to truly understand demand.

Here’s another suggestion for you. Put an American flag on the sunshade. And FYI you can count me as one who does not only say I will buy but will also commit to buy as long as it’s reasonably priced, less than $400 tops. Put it for sale on your website and I will back up what I say with a fast first payment. And I bet many others will as well, especially if you put an American flag on it.

I would support such a effort assuming as others have said the price is reasonable (i would guess $200 max) and time frame to completion is reasonable. I know of at least 5 others where I work that would probably jump on it once they saw mine =P I would show it off any chance I could. :)

Hey guys in all reality $750 for a Sunrider and for the roller shade combined is not quite realistic. Two different trim fabrics for the Sunrider, runs $700 to $800 and the roller shade that they now offer for the Wrangler is $158

So expect to pay combined of $858 at a minimum. Cast your votes for that combined price. I doubt that they will go down to $750 combined. And let’s hope they can/will price a Gladiator roller sunshade close to the Wrangler roller sunshade price. That one works for me.

I don’t think so. I spoke with someone from Bestop a while back. Asked them essentially the same question. Long story short the answer was no. Could not sell me a Wrangler roller sunshade and put it on a Gladiator, would not line up. And by the way is a Spidershade the same thing as a roller sunshade? See the 2 different sunshades that I posted yesterday. One is a roller sunshade and the other one isn’t. Big difference. Not certain if the the other one will fit on a Gladiator but it doesn’t roll up and retract.

spider shade is simply a mesh, strung out with bungee cords.

Well I bet that would go on a Gladiator. One fast way to find out. Try to put it on your truck. But it’s not nearly as convenient as the roller sunshade will be. I am holding out until Bestop comes out with their roller sunshade for my Gladiator.

My boy needs some protection from the sun. The spider shade goes on, as soon as the soft top goes on, in the spring. Stays in place till fall.

Ill give it a shot, as worse case, the little upholstery girl can modify it.

I've been using my JKU spiderwebshade on my JT for over 6 months. Works great, except that you can't latch the rear latches on the freedom tops. Hasn't been a problem. All others are latched and there are no leaks.

I'd be all in for a roller shade & sunrider combo purchase. If Kickstarter is what it takes to get it done, sign me up.

Sounds good ! Any pics ?

Its either softop and spidershade, or the hard top. I pull the shade off for winter hardtop time.
