Hi all,

I have had an itch for a gladiator for the last year or so. I currently have a 2015 Tacoma with 90k miles that has been great. I don’t “need” a truck, but I like having the option of the bed for house projects, hauling kids bikes, occasional camping/fishing etc. I have two kids (5, 7) but they don’t ride with me that often, and they fit fine in the Tacoma. I don’t want or need a full size truck. I want a Gladiator for the fun factor - roof and doors off etc. won’t be doing much off-roading.
I have found what I think to be a good deal on a 2020 Overland with 14k miles. Link below. It has all the comfort features I would want except for LED lights and heated seats, which aren’t really big deals. The only “mod” I plan to do is to put Rubicon takeoffs on to get rid of the 18s and highway tires. Not interested in buying new - would rather try to save 10k+ by buying a low miles used.
Should I be concerned about buying out of warranty? With 14k miles I wouldn’t expect issues, but I am wary of trading in my low maintenance bullet proof truck for an unknown quantity.

Only thing I'd be weary of on the 2020s was there was a small batch of them with bad lifters but that would be covered by the 5 year 60k warranty. In general the 3.6 and the gladiator in general has been extremely reliable outside of a few small issues (leaking rear axle shafts, aluminum steering box, under torqued suspension).

From what I’ve read on here I would avoid the 2020’s.

The first model year seemed to have the highest number of issues out of any of them. I cannot back that up as I didn’t bookmark all the “my stuff broke, weird gremlin” threads but from what I remember the majority of those were 2020 models.

*flame suit on for the possible onslaught of replies stating that they’ve had no issues with their 2020*

I have a 2020 Rubicon. The only warranty issue I have had was a leaking rear window. I have 33000 miles on it. Heavily modified.

2020 model here with 71,000 problem free miles. There were issues out of the earlier 2020 models but post August 2020 they seem to have worked the kinks out. Only issue I've had was a third tail light that got replaced under warranty and they replace the aluminum steering box with a steel one, but mine was driving fine with the aluminum one. I let them replace it because it was free and I figured steel will last longer than aluminum. Other than that mines been a joy.

Run a report on the VIN….it looks like the VIN they show is missing one character, there should be 17 characters in total.

I'm at 23,000 miles on my 2020 Sport-S Granite Crystal Metallic. I just put new tires on after wearing the original ones down, and I must say, having the Rubicon sized tires on my truck now makes me feel really good about the way it looks. I get compliments frequently and I can't wait to change out the front bumper and maybe add a winch too. I love my Gladiator, and I think you would too.

2020 Sport S Max Tow, now with 44,500 miles. Rear window leak (hopefully just fixed), but no other issues...

Given you won't be doing off roading a ton, I wouldn't get one. The solid front axle and steering box versus IFS and a steering rack that's on pretty much every other modern vehicle can be jarring, and really for a lot of people aren't worth the compromise in day to day driving if they don't take it to do the Jeep thing. Toyota should be announcing the next gen Tacoma in a couple days and Ford will have the next gen Ranger within the next month or so.

Just my 2 cents:
Unless you "have to have it now" I would strongly recommend comparing what you can order a new one for from the participating dealers like Tri-City or Gupton and Koons...pretty tough to beat those discounts.

I have a Nissan Titan that I have owned for 12 years and love. We decided it was time for a newer truck. I wanted a diesel for sure and landed on a Gladiator. We found a 2022 Willys diesel with 6k miles on it in Ohio for $40k. I flew up to get it and drove it 9 hours back home in the torrential rain. It did well and I loved the way it drove. It lacked power windows and locks. I didnt care about the windows but the lack of power locks is an inconvenience unmeasurable. We traded it in for exactly what we paid for a 2023 diesel Gladiator Rubicon. Bit of a price hike though. ?
